A-Level Physics Specialisation

I'm currently in Year 11 hoping to do Physics at A-Level, I know you can specialise in certain topics for Paper 3 (Astrophysics, medical, engineering, turning points & electronics). I'm hoping to do a BSc Software Engineering degree at uni (don't know which one yet) to go on to either a software engineering or games development career, so I'm guessing engineering would help with that, but I have a passion for astrophysics and it's my favourite topic in physics.

Does what I choose to specialise in affect my chances of getting into the course, or does it not matter?
Sorry you've not had any responses about this. :frown: Are you sure you've posted in the right place? Here's a link to our subject forum which should help get you more responses if you post there.

It doesn't matter at all, in fact at most schools you won't get a choice, it's whatever your teachers decided they want to teach.
The universities you apply to won't know which option you are doing either.

The only benefit it could have is if it helps with a first year module, i know people who did the engineering module and apparently it was beneficial for first year thermal physics. That being said, i did turning points and the special relativity we did there was of no help for the special relativity i did in my first year.

Basically, don't worry about it and if you get the choice then pick whatever you think will motivate you to study for it the most.
