Hey @Brianstudy01

Yes, getting an IBMS-accredited degree is a route into becoming a Biomedical Scientist in the NHS.

I've linked a NHS webpage below with some information about different routes into becoming a Biomedical Scientist and also some information from the IBMS.
https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/healthcare-science/roles-healthcare-science/life-sciences/biomedical-science
https://www.ibms.org/registration/become-a-biomedical-scientist/track-1-starting-your-journey/

Lancaster offers an IBMS-accredited Biomedical Science degree, and also offers the opportunity to apply for placements within the NHS (to help you complete your portfolio so you can apply to become a Biomedical Scientist), I'll link the course page below!

Btw is this in the placement year aswell or nah have searched and really interested btw can you name all unis that offer so can check there modules and entry requirements out???
Biomedical Scientist is a protected title in the UK - that means to be a biomedical scientist you need to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Same as to be a medical doctor you need to be registered with the GMC.

To get on to the HCPC register as a biomedical scientist you need a Certificate of Competence from the IBMS. And part of that is an IBMS accredited degree or converting a similar degree with additional university modules.

If you want to use a biomedical science degree for something else then it's not important, but if you want to be a biomedical scientist then it's sensible to do an IBMS accredited degree.

The current list is here: Accredited degrees - Institute of Biomedical Science (ibms.org)

NHS Placements
Lancaster University offers students the chance to apply for an NHS placement during their second year. The number of placements available will depend on the number of hospitals that can take on students. This placement is not part of the degree - Students must apply for these placements by themselves, with help from the university. I have heard Lancaster University is quite good at getting placements for their students.
