Are you certain that "performing well on the SMC/BMO (or similar) isn't significant for the personal statement"? To be honest, passion or enthusiasm is something that can be easily fabricated, unlike the BMO result. Cambridge even stated that they don't consider the personal statement at all.

I was trying to say there are other ways to demonstrate an interest/passion for maths and its in the context of the OPs smc scores. If youve done well, its worth putting down but maybe more important would be to explain the interest / learning associated with it, rather than just saying you took a 2hr test once a year. If youve done well / the learning it should set you up for the interview and mat (with additional a level stuff), and step somewhat, which are typically more useful/selective than putting your score down on your the personal statement.

Youre correct that stuff can be fabricated on the personal statement, I guess even ukmt scores, but Id guess that would become apparent at the interview.
