my gsce life

i've seen a few people do this and i liked the idea of tracking my progress through year 9 up until my gsces

a bit about me:
im in year 9
for gsces im taking:
maths - my best and favourite subject and i want to take it at uni (my dream is maths at cambridge but we're still a while from there)
english - my worst subject (both lit and lang)
physics
chemistry
biology
history
latin
spanish
computing
and most likely additional maths

in advance: im not the most hardworking student - i get good grades and i study for tests but im not doing a bunch of work right now as we havent started the gsces courses yet and i dont want to burn out before we even start

i am also a bit rambly so sometimes you might get my most useful revison technique ever and sometimes you might get my favourite food or how im coping with revision and socialising and extra curriculars - this is going to be about my life while doing me gsces not just how im revising yk

right now:
ik i said maths is my best subject but rn its not going so well
i sat the cayley olympiad last week (i got 116 in the imc) and i didnt do as well as id hoped to but we'll see what happends when the scores come out
i also had a maths test of which im getting the scores back tomorrow so we'll see how that goes
i dont think it went well but im also very harsh on myself with maths - anything under 50/57 will probably disappoint me and i think 51 was the highest? i dont think ill get 50 but i can hope
This looks like a great gyg, good luck!
It's amazing that you got into the olympiad in the first place, I'm sure your results will be great!

tysmmm
fingers crossed about the olympiad but ik I can be hard on myself so ill prolly be disappointed 😞
update on my life atm:
I'm not planning on doing too much work during the holidays, I want to give myself a bit of a break to relax, but next week I'll probably start revising some of my notes as my end of years are quite soon after the holiday.
we also have our dofe practise expedition the first week back so if anyone has any tips for that I would be so grateful! I'm quite nervous but I think it's just because I've never really camped before, so it should be fine.

oh also (this is a bit random) if anyone wants it this is my favourite (kind of healthy) study snack:

basically you melt dark chocolate (because dark chocolate is meant to make you smarter) and dip fruits into it. I usually use a toothpick so it's not too messy as you can end up getting chocolate everywhere.

fruits I like to use:
strawberries (the best also they come with a holdy type thing (the leaves) so you don't need toothpicks)
grapes
cherries
oranges (segments of the easy peelers work really well)
chopped banana
nectarine/peach - these are a lot more messy so i usually use these as a last resort if there are no fruit left in the house
tbh you cld probably use any fruit because chocolate goes with everything

That sounds really good, my snacks are usually really unhealthy but I'll definitely give this a try!

Good morning,
For your DofE food I would highly recommend wraps as these tend to keep far better than standard bread - Both in terms of not getting squished and staying fresh.
Also for first aid, there's little point everyone taking a small kit, rather just have one kit thats taken by one of your group members, far easier (Same for the washing up kit).
Have fun!

hii for ref I did bronze and silver dofe
I’m pretty sure it depends on where you’re camping at. On silver there were showers and some of us used them, but many stuck to wipes

As for weather most people did it during summertime, so weather shouldn’t be a problem but it’s good to bring some extra layers if u get cold easily

hello - welcome!!
English was one of my worst subjects as well at GCSE! It's so good though when you never have to do it again once you have done your exams though, so don't give up
thank you everyone for the support! i have my dofe practise tomorrow - wish me luck!
we just got informed about our end of years - we have them week beginning 6th May. i will make a revision timetable when i get back and hopefully start my flashcards
Welcome to gyg ❤️
