Do employers care more about the degree subject or the uni you went to?

Hi im currently a first year at uni of bath which i think is a pretty well respected uni? Anyways i'm still quite open to any field at the moment but currently aim to work in the finance sector or do something like consulting, so thats what im currently searching for when looking for work experience or summer internships... although my current course doesnt directly align with finance as im studying international development with economics... so ive been considering switching opening up a ucas application and switching universities... maybe to a less reputable one :/ so i can study a more relevant degree like pure econ or something. But my main concern is whether i would have a greater advantage switching unis to do a more relevant degree or sticking with this uni because of its rankings.
Have you spoken to employers about this? Or your university careers service?

If you are happy with your course and university then it’s a really silly idea to leave based on an assumption you’re making about what employers want.
