A Quick Student Guide to Kingston University Apps

KU App
Whether it’s checking the free on-site bus timetables, figuring out which room your next lecture is in or looking for events/activities to sign up to on KUextra, the KU Mobile App is an extremely useful tool for navigating daily student life here at Kingston. Here, you can access your timetable, IT Services, Student Union information and even the library catalogue so it’d definitely worth a download if you haven’t already.
It’s also a good place to go for the most up-to-date information about issues such as the university IT service status or nearby road closures and has an IT Service Desk Live Chat feature so you can instantly message someone about any technical issue you might be having.

Canvas
The Canvas app functions as KU’s main virtual learning environment: in short, any information on your modules, assignments, or just your course in general will all be found on Canvas! Of all the apps here, you might use Canvas the most for example, I personally check Canvas at least once a day, as it’s also the platform that a lot of my lecturers use to set class reminders/do important course announcements.
You can download Canvas through the KU app, and log-in with your Kingston University username and password to access the modules you’ve been added to. If you don’t understand the layout right away, don’t worry your course tutors/lecturers should give you an introduction on how to use Canvas and find any information you might need in the first few days of starting up.

SEAtS
Across all Kingston University campuses, most rooms will have a card reader where you can tap your student ID to register your attendance for any scheduled class. However, if you’ve forgotten your card or you’re too far away from the reader, you can also use the SEAts app to check-in to your classes.
If you’re an international student on a UKVI student visa, it’s important to check-in to all of your timetabled sessions - whether that’s through SEAts or through tapping the card reader in most lecture halls to make sure you’re fulfilling your visa obligations for attendance and engagement.

OSIS
Whilst it might not technically be an app, OSIS is still an incredibly important tool to know about during your time at Kingston. OSIS which is short for Online Student Information System contains all the information the university has about you, such as what you’re studying, your VISA status, your money/tuition fee payments and your personal tutor’s contact information. OSIS is also where you can quickly access proof of study/council tax exemption letters: so if you need a letter from the university, OSIS is the place to check out!

As always, I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions about using/downloading these apps, just leave them down below!
