All engineering subjects are hard in that they need proficiency in maths and physics. It might help if you post which universities you'd be aiming to apply for, and also whether you've considered the more general electrical/electronic engineering courses, from which you could specialise in telecommunications.

You will typically require 3 A levels, two of them being maths and physics. However there may be some universities offering to waiver this if you instead apply for a foundation year.

If you want to do it and think you would enjoy it. Not hard at all. I personally like Mechanics units in Maths. Like in the sense that I actually wouldn't mind going to Mechanics lessons and solve problems, hence why i took Mechanical Engineering. And this is coming from a guy who slacks alot when it comes to education and spend a whole eternity in the gym.

In other words, if i can do it. Anyone can. That's only if you're determined and enjoy or at least have certain interest in the subject.
I think with this sort of determination you will do well, I know people that arent fussed at university and do well. But then I know people that are there for all lectures/tutorials/seminars, read all the required passages each week, do the work asked and extra questions and they reap what they have sewed. The fact that you are willing to prepare yourself mentally the year before will definitely be worth your while, it will allow you to concentrate on the areas your weaker on in your first year or at least put you on a level playing field to start this degree. One thing I would advise is to search the internet and maybe ask on forums like this (look on others) and see what textbooks are used in the first year. *Whispers* You dont need to be a student to go on a nearby uni campus and buy the books, some unis bring out their own books which collate several different texts and if you go in their bookshop you can buy these and just casually say to the assistant that you dont remember which books you need for such and such degree/module. Just look online at which course/modules they do.

How long is a piece of string? Most degrees are hard, but for engineering if you are good at maths and are willing to put the work in, you'll do well. If you post what universities you're considering applying to, and what A levels you have or are planning to do, then people will be able to give you some more specific help.
