Yep, competitive and non-competitive inhibitors, enzyme structure etc. I dont know what it is about bio 1 this will be my 3rd time retaking it and the best grade I got was 70. But I got 132 in bio2. Hopefully it will be fine THIS TIME.

Goodluck to you too

Do you think unit 2 is easier?

Sucks doesnt it :/
I was at first, VERY happy with the B... because I thought I had a D
But now i'm just gutted having to re-do the whole unit :/ x

I think unit 2 is a million times worse than this.
I really really dislike it.
Hope A2 will be okay :/

I wouldnt say unit 2 is harder per say, but sometimes it can feel that way because its got more content I think?

I find unit 5 hard , its like 2 unit 2s + an essay.

I was alright with it, but I knew that Medical universities wouldn't be alright with it.

And that thing you asked about B and T cells, I think you need to know more,
you need to know the whole process in which the pathogens are attacked.

yeah theres a 25mark essay at the end of unit 5 exam, you can pick between 2 questoins. At the beggining last year I was like OMFG AN ESSAY?!. But its not THAT bad. Its about 2 pages of writing and you should cover 5 topics, its almost like 5 5markers, but not as much detail.

but you cant get full marks unless you talk about things outside the sylabus lol

Oh, well there's a long time for that, hopefully my essay writing skills will improve.

Has anyone tried the CGP books for biology?

Essays and science should never mix :frown:

Really don't understand carrier proteins & channel proteins.. Anyone care to explain?

For carrier protein all you need to know is:

- Different carrier proteins facilitate diffusion of different molecules
- Carrier proteins transport large molecules in and out of the cell
- Down a concentration gradient i.e. from high to low concentration
- the process starts by large molecule attaching to carrier protein
- The protein then changes shape
- Which releases molecule on opposite side of membrane
- it's a passive process - no energy is used

And for protein channels:

- Different protein channels facilitate diffusion of different charged particles
- Protein channels form pores in the membrane
- For charged particles
- Down a concentration gradient
- This is also passive

I hope I haven't missed anything important out

Nope. I stick to my textbook and markschemes to be honest.
They work for some people though.
Depends if you learn by colours, pictures, boxed info and.. no offence CGP but bad jokes
My friend swears by them, but I find them pointless

Your signature picture is addictive.. I can't quite stop myself from watching it

CGP books are fine to grasp concepts as they usually explain things better. But I dont think they are detailed enough to get an A.

I find them pointless too!
I find them lame, and too kid-ified, I mean if you learn everything from your text book and revise from the CGP, its alright, but from my point of view you should never learn something from them.
But people in my class are crazy about them, they call it the 'bible'. -_-
i got a C in unit 2 by just doing past papers and memorising the answers lol....now here comes bio 4 and bio 5 lol

Same.. Then again i'm a bit biased as the textbook was written by one of my old teachers. :P
Still, its what makes most sense to me.
Calling it the bible.. serious-ness O.o ?!!?
I can't stand them
