Oxbridge for a subject I'm better at, or a more practical option?

Perks of being an 'all-rounder' (minus all the stuff like Geography and DT that I dropped ASAP haha... and don't even talk about PE...) It's annoying in a way though haha. But I know at the end of the day it's unlikely to have a HUGE difference, and I'm in a privileged situation to have multiple choices

My firm is Nottingham and my insurance is Manchester but they both want AAA so this will be interesting come results day, and thanks I'm scared and excited ahh ; I'm sure you will make your mind up and just be thankful you have all these options here !

Yeah My sister's going to Nottingham - she managed to get an unconditional though so she's way less stressed than she could be...

Basically, I'm 'good' at most of my subjects - but where I seem to do the best is in philosophy; I'm also going to take Econ A-level and have a feeling I could do pretty well in it

I'm currently down to do Maths, FM, Philosophy&Ethics and Economics.

I think I (will) prefer the Philosophy/Econ side but I know that the Maths is more important for CompSci, which will give me far more employment opportunities. However, my Maths is good (high A* at IGCSE taken early) but not GREAT so I would basically be unable to get into Oxbridge. On the other hand, I might be able to get in for something like PPE or E&M, where I think I'm quite a bit better.

Do I sacrifice Oxbridge for a uni like Warwick (obviously a great uni, but it's not Oxbridge) for CompSci, or do I go with what I think I prefer and am better at, with the possibility of Oxbridge, but risking major employment troubles with rising automation?

I'm going for PPE at Oxbridge and I'm doing exactly the same subjects, apart from I'm taking Further maths AS instead of A level, because it isn't necessary for an Oxbridge offer and I will have more time to dedicate to my other subjects.

What year are you in at the moment? If you're in Y12, how are you finding the subjects?

Have you always been set on PPE or was the decision relatively recent? I'm curious, because I've been going round in circles the last 3 weeks...

I have been interested and wanting to do PPE since the start of year 11 to be honest, I feel like it's one of the only ways to become fully academic (if you know what I mean). I feel like I'll be able to go into almost any job with specialist knowledge in maths, economics and philosophy. But, I'm quite tongue tied with PPE or straight up Law, I can still become a solicitor through either degree (law conversion), but I think that I would get bored with straight Law - hence why PPE is my current decision. The diversity fascinates me and with doing three subject at university, there will be the ultimate challenge of acing one of the arguably hardest degrees in the world and that's thrilling

I get that in theory, but uni has two purposes: education and opening doors for employment. Reputation can be gained by course strength (e.g. Warwick Maths, although that's also research) or mainly by other factors, such as history in the case of Oxbridge. I imagine most employers care more about reputation than your specific course - I can't really imagine them reading through pages of course descriptions; so even if the course is better for me, the uni might not have the best rep in the subject and so on... I guess it should be *that* simple, but I don't really think it is.

Not entirely sure about 'fully academic' (as one could argue PPE has very little Maths compared to, say, Cambridge's Econ course, or CompSci/Maths/Physics/NatSci at either uni. Perhaps even 90% of PPEists having Maths is more of a function of the type of people who pick Maths - e.g. those from private schools - more frequently than the actual importance of the subject to the degree.)

But I agree about the options and how amazing the course looks! I like the P, P and E, so it's just between that and options that might lead to more employment possibilities like CompSci, but I have a feeling the elitist overconfident prick in me might just want to give it a shot
