Returning to teaching

Hi all, I'm new to this newsgroup but thought I'd start browsing coz I
am returning to teaching after a 2 1/4 year break. After enjoying a
lovely christmas I will start teaching reception in January. I am
looking forward to it but I am after some good tips to get me sailing
through it all!! Anyone got some good ideas for sailing through baseline
without the children getting bored?? All ideas will help, cheers.

A) Always regard it as your responsibility to keep the kids
interested and absorbed

B) Keep them fully stretched - especially the bright ones.

C) Remember that every child has special educational needs

D) Ignore the moaners and whingers. If you feel totally kna**ered at
the end of the day, it's usually a sign you've done a damn good job
(learnt this donkey's years ago - and it's still true today!)

E) If you believe teaching is a profession, be professional. That
means - go that extra mile, find ways to say "yes" instead of
reasons to say "no"; always try to do an even better job than you
did yesterday; don't expect any (or much) thanks; if people
(kids, parents, colleagues - even Ofsted) make suggestions or
criticise, be grateful for the feedback and (try to) learn from
it - don't reject it out of hand. (M+S never listened to their
customers or paymasters, and they, their shareholders _and_
customers paid the price)

F) Remember that, apart from the pay, you're just like an airline
pilot or a doctor - there's no second chance for the customers!

In short, keep doing what you hope your own kids' teachers are doing.
