Confused about magnets question! (Need help for exam tomorrow!)

Hi,

I'm confused about this question -- I think the answer is C, but my book says that it's E. If you're good at physics and have a minute to spare, could you please have a look at the question? (Sorry the question's phrased in a somewhat odd way! Basically you have to pick A, B, C, D, or E.) I have an exam tomorrow so would very much like to clear this up tonight, if possible. Thanks a million!!

QUESTION:

Two halves of an iron washer are placed between two magnets as shown in the diagram. What will be the result(s)?

I. X will be a S-pole and Y a N-pole.
II. Y will be a N-pole and Z a S-pole.
III. Y and W will be S-poles.
IV. X and Z will be S-poles.

(A) I, II, and III only
(B) I and III only
(C) II and IV only
(D) IV only
(E) None of the above

Thank you!!

the answer is E

iron is a magnetic material and is attracted to magnets. That doesn't mean it has to become a magnet for that to happen.

no poles are created
