How sure are you of becoming a pharmacist?

Hey guys, I'd like to know how determined you are to become a pharmacist and how you feel about becoming a pharmacist.

I'm asking because I have gotten offers and I know what being a pharmacist is like and all (having done practical experience) but I get mixed feelings sometimes.

Some days I'm excited about it and some days I start feeling insecure. Not sure why.

I feel happy that I'll be having a secure and well-paying job helping people but I'm afraid that I'll find it too tedious and end up feeling regretful. Is this normal?

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but whenever I talk to my family members about me becoming a pharmacist I can tell that the excitement slowly fades from their body language. One of them even said "Isn't that like being a highly educated shop keeper?"

I know that there is more to that, but it feels like people don't have that much respect for the profession.

What do you say?

why did you apply for pharmacy if you aren't interested in it it's not fair on those who got rejected when they could've had your place yano!
i think this was something you should've thought about before you applied!
i
think a pharmacist in this country is not valued as much as in Canada for instance i think if you were to compare the salaries you would see that Canadian pharmacists earn way much more than british ones

what else would you do if you're not "interested" in pharmacy then?
& also i don't think you should care what your family thinks at the end of the day it's up to you what career you choose to pursue if it's something you're interested in you shouldn't get bogged down by your family "looking down" at you!

it's a good paying career it's not like you told them you want to become a lap dancer or something LMAO!

I can't wait to become a pharmacist, however I am going into hospital pharmacy as I want the better career progression and chance to use all my degree knowledge. My main ambition is to become a specialist pharmacist (probably in paediatrics) undertaking research within the hospital and university.

Don't worry about having mixed feelings. Everyone gets cold feet now and again and its probably more potent as you've not started the degree so you'll have mixed feelings about the degree more than anything.

And ignore people who mention the shop-keeper thing. They're just ignorant and need educating.

I know! You don't spend 4 years studying your face off to become a "shop keeper", right?

I'm just afraid that while working in a pharmacy you'll end up using a small percentage of what you learned.

The shop keeper thing comes with the job description I'm afraid. It all becomes water off a ducks back in the end. Its like nurses get the bed pan thing and teachers "cant do so teach". We probably suffer the worst though! As for the Torchwood going into "drug research", no better way of doing this than by becoming a pharmacist!
