Hello I’ve applied for the ed psych course and was wondering what the group task part of interview might entail

The different unis will have different tasks (some might be just a discussion around an issue, others might be more task-orientated with some sort of outcome/decision made). It's unfair to know what the tasks might entail beforehand, as it would give you an unfair advantage

Can you advise what to expect at an interview please?

Hi Scorpio and Joanna - I'm assuming that you mean at interview for a training course (rather than for a job as an EP or assistant EP)......

As someone mentioned earlier, the different courses have different requirements.

Interviews can include:
a group or individual task, such as discussing a case or solving a problem
a written activity
a presentation (you would be told about this beforehand)
a young people's panel

They will always include a formal interview.

Read any information about the criteria for entry to the course (or for a job the person specification) beforehand and makes notes on how you meet all of the points. It is very likely that the interview panel will have questions designed to tap into the essential criteria, and each response will be marked against these.

Before you attend do your homework, both about the course (or employer) and the role more generally. Make sure you are up to date in your knowledge about legislation (Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Reforms), recent developments (SEND Inspection of Local Areas, The Local Offer, person centred planning, post 16 and SEND, to name but a few) and current hot topics (such as the consultation on transforming children and young people's mental health provision). Also ensure you can answer questions about the theories you find relevant and useful and why you want to become an EP. You might find it helpful to have a look at a few Local Authority EPS web pages to see what they say and topics of interest mentioned. Also check out the university's research interests related to the profession, as that will give you a flavour of the tutor's own specialisms. Finally, go along with confidence and share information about your experience and achievements with enthusiasm, as that will go a long way.

Good luck!

Hi guys, Does anyone have a vague timeline for when UEL interviews have been in recent years? I'm interviewing this year but they are unable to give me an estimate of the date and I have a great deal of difficulty taking time off. Thanks so much in advance for anyone seeing this or replying

I am applying for an MA Social Work at UEL this year amongst applying to other unis too. In terms of interviews, it would probably be dependant on the department that you are applying for. I would advise to login into your applicant portal account to check and pick a date asap as dates and times can be limited or either call the admissions team. For me, I was supposed to have an Teams interview on Wednesday but I didn't receive the teams invite. So I had to call admissions to sort it out and they apologised. I originally had to reschedule the interview - the one they picked for me because I had online uni on the date they gave me. For social work, the interviews are typically on Wednesdays from the mornings to the afternoon (3pm). I am not sure about other departments. Hope this helps and best of luck with your Educational Psychology application. You got this. I have an interview next Wednesday so hopefully, it goes all smooth sailing!

Thanks so much Krushems27! That makes sense, I’ll try to find out as much information as I can and hopefully ask for them to move it if it’s too difficult for me to attend. Best of luck with your interview too, I’m sure it will go very smoothly!
