Hello there!
Thanks for your post. You are correct, this course is not accredited by the BPS which is a feature of most psychology degrees in the UK (such as our our
Psychology BSc) and which is necessary if you would like to take further training for certain careers, such as becoming a practising clinical psychologist.
Our Education with psychology course is quite different to a traditional psychology degree, and is specifically focused on understanding young people’s development and education. While this includes insights from the field of psychology, it also draws on sociological, political and philosophical approaches and so is quite distinct from a traditional psychology.
Our Education with Psychology graduates are typically seeking careers in education, the NHS, other healthcare settings, and in charities focused on education. When I was a student here, one of my flatmates was studying Education with Psychology, and she chose to do a placement in a University in the US working in clinical/academic research, but went onto pursue a career in market research and innovation. Another of my friends from the course decided to train to become a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) at a primary school. If you have not done so already, you could check out
this video on the Bath page by 2 Education with Psychology graduates talking about their chosen career pathways, and you can find out more about the careers of our graduates on our
Education with Psychology outcomes page.So to answer your question, I would say this degree would be a fab springboard into lots of different careers, not only education – but it completely depends on what you would like to pursue. If you would like some more advice, then please do email
[email protected] – they will be more than happy to answer any questions you have – and of course please post any more questions you have on here.
I hope that helps you – best of luck in your decision and future!
