Change the Degree after Year 1?

What if a student realises during the first year that's not the programme one wants to continue after year 1? Is it usually possible in the UK to quit a programme after year 1 and apply to another one? Does one have to leave the university, then, and transfer to another institution, or may a change from one to another degree (e.g. from physics to economics) be permitted within the same uni? Will a new application via UCAS be required?

Almost certain it is dealt with through the University so no need to re-apply through UCAS
E-mailing or speaking to your head of year would clear it up
No, you just talk to whoever's in charge of that stuff at your uni and they'll decide if you can change. If they say no, then think about re-applying. And the best time to change is either at the start or the end of your first year. Any time after that is really pushing it

If you want to change from one degree to another at the same university then you have to ask the programme leader if they will accept you onto that course.

I'm not too sure about transferring, but I'm guessing you would have to contact the Uni you're hoping to transfer to and gain release from the Uni that you're at.

You'll have to talk to your university's student service, so just find out who they are, and where they are located, make an appointment and go talk to them
