Fingers crossed I will be! Have an offer (2:1), just waiting to get my results...unless I have failed my last exam (which seems unlikely) then I will be going

Good luck
I will be studying in the same department as you both of you (as long as I meet my offer) but I will by taking a different course.

I look forward to meeting you in September!

Hey! I'm doing the Peace and Conflict course this year (2009-2010). Just writing my dissertation now.

...wow, I can't believe I'm almost done. :frown:

But feel free to ask any questions you may have about the course!

Oh excuse me, how long does the course last? 12 months? Then I have to register for a 50-week-accommodation? Where do you all stay? I am trying to find accommodation but I'm not sure if it should be 37 or 50 weeks. And if it's 50 weeks, then the university accommodation that has 50 weeks available is quite far.

Yes, it's 12 months. I got an offer for Albany and accepted. I'm quite glad I got one of the cheaper options, and it's by the beach

Also, you could just go with 37 weeks and then move for the summer. I hear a lot of postgraduates do that.

How did you like the course overall? What was your background and do you feel that you're all equipped for a career in peacebuilding or something similar? Of course I don't even know what your career goals are

Basically, I'd be happy to hear about your experiences and anything you'd like to share! Where did the fieldtrip take you? And what's your diessertation on?

Thanks so much

Yes, I'm also interested about how the course is. Where did the field work take place? It's very interesting. May I know what is your topic of dissertation? How many people in class? and about study environment? I'm so excited now

Oh, I just ask the agency in my country to register for Standley Smith though it is just 37 weeks long because I think another those have 50 weeks available are so far. Dont you think it's far? I dont know but it seems to be (from the map) The problem for me is that I have to find a new place to live after 9 months. Or I should change to somewhere else like Albany?

I don't think it's that far... There should be buses too.
Well, I got the results, so will be going . Now just need to officially get registered and find accomodation!

Just curious
Did anyone else experience a lengthly period in getting your offer or is that the standard?
It took about 12 weeks for me to get an unconditional offer
However I am still waiting on "written" confirmation

Anyone started looking for accom yet?

I haven't decided yet because I got an unconditional offer also from KCL LSE and UCL...I'm very confused :frown:...since I don't have the money to go to LSE...and It's very hard to choose between KCL and St. Andrews for peace and conflict studies...or the MA in Human Rights at UCL...any advice?

Well, first off, what area do you want to get into? the UCL course provides a very direct and obvious career path. I can't soeak for KCL, but I have been tod my someone who works in the Peace Studies/Conflict resolution field that St. Andrews is very well thought of...okay, so it's not IDS or SOAS, but the course is very well respected. One thing I will say, environment wise, KCL and St. Andrews will be very different - i.e. there's no nighclubs in St. Andrews for a start. lol. Ace for me, but would put some people off...depends what your priorities are, I guess

Have you also looked at Bradford? They have an excellent reputation in the field of Peace Studies and International Development.

Thx for your answer..actually you made some fair points...I will probably choose UCL because I'm more into human rights. Thanks for you help.

p.s. Do you study at St.Andrews?

I'm starting at St. Andrews in September to do a masters in Peace Studies . Both my parents work in the International Development field (mother founded and runs a charity in Africa and my father is a civil servant who specialises in development economics) ssooo, this kinda thing apparently runs in the family. lol.

Why don't you compare the course guides for the different courses, and maybe contact some NGO's that you'd be interested in working for (in theory) once you graduate and see what they would prefer if they were looking to hire someone?

From what you've said, though, UCL would be a good choice for you

well...I know it sounds crazy but my final aim is obviously working for the UN and that's probably why I will carry on doing a Phd. I love the fact that at UCL you have a wide list of optional courses to choose from. Nevertheless, the fees at these universities are unreasonably high. The next few days are crucial by the way cause I need to give St.Andrews uni and answer by the end of this month. In case I'll change my mind and go for the Mlitt we'll be colleagues for the next term...otherwise good luck with you studies and congrats for you family's commitment to such a great cause.
