Been working through 2005 I yesterday evening and this afternoon and was shocked to find there were 6 questions I could answer! Normally I can only really attempt about 4. Anyone know the grade boundaries for this year, because I think I may be improving or just picked a nice paper (if there is such a thing in the land of STEP).

Yep there is such a thing as good STEP papers, but thats only the 2004s. don't know wat got into the examiners that year. lol

Me, totally freaked out for tmrw!!!! been having maths dreams the whole week, terrifying ones.
I'm absolutely bricking STEP 1 tomorrow, I used to think I was decent at Maths, but I'm crap. I'm going to have no calculator, no laptop, no DFranklin helping me and no M & M's to eat. Game Over. :frown:

Q1 is a pretty standard result for counting the number of factors given a prime factorisation - and if you've seen it before, it's 5 minutes for 20 marks

I didn't look at question 3 - I don't generally like the give conditions sort of questions.

I was under the impression you could take food (as long as not noisy) into exams? We can anyway (only if there's no year 11s in there, and its a relatively small amount of people (like the further maths exams)).

Here are the grade boundaries since 2000. Interesting that 2009 had a relatively high S boundary for all three papers:

STEP I
..... S 1 2 3
2000 91 69 50 38
2001 85 66 50 41
2002 80 61 48 35
2003 94 78 60 43
2004 90 72 55 43
2005 96 80 62 45
2006 82 67 50 38
2007 81 66 49 36
2008 81 65 43 29
2009 95 72 58 35

STEP II
..... S 1 2 3
2000 91 65 48 32
2001 85 62 47 32
2002 90 65 40 32
2003 95 70 55 37
2004 82 60 49 36
2005 89 64 49 31
2006 85 60 49 31
2007 95 66 56 35
2008 94 69 58 35
2009 98 71 61 39

STEP III
..... S 1 2 3
2000 88 66 50 39
2001 77 59 46 32
2002 77 56 43 32
2003 77 56 43 33
2004 75 56 43 33
2005 80 59 47 35
2006 80 60 49 31
2007 86 64 52 35
2008 82 63 52 34
2009 95 67 55 38
For some reason I'm not really that nervous at all yet :\

Im with you on that one. Only thing keeping me going is that if we doing STEP I are this bummed, wat of those doing STEP III
The 2009 paper looks hideous to me. 2 geometry questions, and some fairly difficult other questions. Hopefully they'll go for algebra plus plus this time round. And maybe a little number theory and combinatorics.

I'm going crazy
I'm hoping for lots of calculus, and some inequalities and series

They'll have told your school or college, assuming you didn't tick the box telling them not to. The info will be in the form of a report on your interviews. You can get this report from your school or college (assuming it's in the UK) if you quote the Data Protection Act 1998.

My college never got any feedback.

I did ask my personal tutor (the one who was recieving the feedback for other applicants) to e-mail but I'm not sure she ever did.

Not fussed now anyway, was just curious at the time!
I want integrals/ DEs. Faling that series.

do we get given online log ins for results tomorrow along with the test paper? i seem to remember that's kind of what the STEP website implied last time I checked...

I wouldn't mind a 65 grade 1 boundary, that would be ideal and I wouldn't mind a harder paper than 2009 either. Why were the paper I boundaries so low in 2002? I thought that was a nice paper. Bar the odd interest rate thing. I hate those interest rate questions, do my head in...

Right, just to clear things up, I'm full on nervous about tomorrow and I think I'm being really thick on a question. Can someone help me please?

Can someone possibly explain WHY you would use the double tan formula on 2008/II/4 for the show tanθ=ay2x2tan \theta = a |y^2-x^2| bit? I think I'm being stupid but I can't see why at all. (probably some GCSE angle rule now, and I'll feel really embarassed :p: )

Do you (or anyone else) know why in part (i), when you differentiate you are allowed to get rid of the mod signs? That seems to be what the solutions do.

Take a break buddy .
No point in cramming more questions, you've got your mind thinking a little bit about STEP now so you should be out of A-Level mode. Now just wait until tomorrow and go in with a clear and open mind, you'll be fine

Questions 1,3,4,5,7,8? Those are the one's I did when I attempted it. I genuinely hope we get lucky this year and have reasonable papers (although it's looking unlikely as it appeared the papers were easier last cycle so this time they'll likely be harder as a direct result :frown:)

Those are exactly the questions I attempted. It so much easier when you get the general idea of a question, instead of scratching around not getting anywhere!

On the topic of what questions everyone wants, I would like to some integrals, D.E's and those questions that ask you conditions for polynomials (e.g; 20606 q3). Also wouldn't mind a bit of trig (as long as its not too difficult with the infinite amount of solutions!).

Anyone else out there all by themselves doing this exam tomorrow? Will be weird doing a 3 hour exam by myself and as someone already mentioned, I hope I'm allowed a good old can of red bull to keep me going!
When are the STEP results released? Same time as the other A-Level results?
STEP II 07 Q7 is amazing. Literally one of the easiest STEP questions I've done, and yet I bet most people didn't even try it in the exam because it looks scary!
