Achieved the highest grade in med school, AMA

This isn’t a post to brag, far from it, it’s designed to be motivational and helpful to students either in medical school or at A-level/GCSE level.

I will be able to give advice on how I studied, approached content, etc, step by step.

Ask away.

Did you have any responsibilities besides showing up and doing the assigned work?

Good question

I don’t really know what could be meant by responsibilities, but I’m assuming you mean did I do anything other than revision?

to be honest, I wasn’t really the type of guy to spend all his time revising. I enjoyed doing other things too like going to the gym, outings with friends, partying etc.

in terms of showing up, I did attend every lecture and submit work on time, and pre read and consolidated content.

Congratulations, a significant achievement!

did you do the whole Anki thing? Or a different memorisation technique.

if you did use Anki what approach did you use? Writing them, memorisation etc ?
What tips do you have for making the most of learning anatomy in the way it was taught in your med school? Any apps or resources?

I think they mean things like a job, children or other caring responsibilities, etc.

Congrats on your exam results. I remember you from application season and I'm glad the perseverance paid off. 😊

hey

yeah, I mainly just used Anki for everything. Honestly, people always talk about it but I can stress enough how good it is.

I don't just like memorise everything from the lecture slides through Anki though.

I learn in 3 stages
first stage - understanding the content
second stage - conceptualising the content (creating synoptic links on how topics can link together and figuring out what the bigger picture is) - I do this by really getting my hands dirty in terms of understanding everything, what goes with what, why that goes with that etc.
third stage - of course is the memorising. there will be some stuff you have to inevitably memorise and that is fine. but ultimately the reason of creating synoptic links and conceptions will be helpful when it comes to actually applying what you have learnt and stuff

I only just saw this question, a month later, jheeezz…….

I do apologise lol

Tbh, how I learn anatomy is just like any other student would tbh. I just use Anki and recall. TBH, the only thing I would say helped a lot aside from this would be getting your hands on actual models. This was a life saver in learning skeletal anatomy. Not only this, it applies to other systems too, cardiovascular etc.

But yeah mainly Anki flashcards, using the images on the cards, and recalling what structure is being shown. Repeat this frequently until you just know it 😂
