None of my A-levels had anything to do with Politics and I know nothing about Economics.

I think about 3 people on my course have Economics A-level.

Not strictly necessary.

Even one of our longer term chancellors only had a history degree.

Politics is a mixture of stuff, politics modules I did last year had most of the relevant information spelt out anyway.
Pretty much most graduates I've come across have some sort of understanding of economics these days. Debt mostly, but a few have made some decent money within the system.

It doesn't hurt to read up on macroeconomics and international economics..
No, but you should start trying to keep up with it on the news and in theory. I've known a few Politics students who only started learning the basics of Economics in their first year at university.
It's a good idea to have some idea of the basics, as it will come up, but you don't have to have studied it at all.
