How to . . get enough votes from other students to become Course Representatives ?

I plan to campaign at my Uni to become Course Rep. A few ideas comes to mind:
1. Perform a mini lecture to others that are doing the same course. This way people are aware of who i am and what i represent.
2. Offer an incentive, so provide free passes to gyms or free entry to clubs (i know people).
3. Hand out leaflets promoting my facebook, twitter and Youtube page.

What else am i missing ? What are students really and truly looking for ? Do students really care ? Any ideas will be FANTASTIC ! :yep:

Thankyou :woo:

NOTE: i am doing my postgraduate degree at a prestigious Uni in London.

What? we're struggling to get a single candidate prepared to touch it with a bargepole.

Suppose it'd be good if you appeared to share their concerns and seemed like an approachable sort of person... that sort of thing.
You need a few smear campaigns against the other candidates.

I think mini lectures are more likely to annoy people who would rather leave and grab a coffee, unless you can make them entertaining.

It will cost you silly money to provide free gym passes and club entry, even if you do know people, because these people you know won't want to have hundreds of students wanting in for free.

Facebook may prove useful, but really, just email all your coursemates and explain your ideas for the year, and make sure you get a feel for what your students want.

Didn't take much for me to beat off the other candidates for course and school rep.

Im for the smear campaign

When you say 'offer an incentive', is that like a bribe?
just give out tonnes of free food
The smear campaign presents many options. You could even literally offer to fund smear tests for cervical cancer for the girls on your course. Or edit the head of the other candidates onto the body of someone in a failblog/porn vid.

I did course representation as an undergrad and was basically chosen by the lecturer because I was outspoken and no-one else wanted to do it :p:

This year I'm applying to be a senior rep (they've just introduced it) and I basically went up to a few classmates and said "Look, I want to be your senior rep, but I need three nominations. I've been a course rep for three years, know all the staff, did my undergrad here, and I'm generally a nice person." They gave me their names and I applied :p:

I think, having read your post, you may be talking about what we call faculty chairs though - we vote for it at the All Student Meeting and people basically get up and say why they should be the one to do it and the student body votes. Have a look at the application process, then we may be able to give you more specific and relevant ideas.
