In terms of employability in the course 'Msc Human-Computer Interaction Design', there are a range that City Graduates go into including: UX designer/consultant, User researcher, Information architect, Accessibility specialist, Technical project manager, User interface developer, Technology evaluator, and more.

As the HCID and UX industry expands and technology becomes a major part of our daily lives there’s a growing need for skilled professionals across sectors. These sectors can include: digital agencies, business consultancies, charities, commercial, government and IT companies all need qualified staff to design user friendly interactive systems.

This course is also an excellent starting point if you are considering pursuing a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction. Postgraduate students in our Department of Computer Science are offered an unrivalled opportunity to complete up to six months of professional experience (internship: https://www.city.ac.uk/prospective-students/career-development/placements-internships-and-employment-opportunities) as part of their Masters’ degree.

Thanks so much!
Hello, I received an offer for this course for 2023/24. I was wondering how you found the course and the experience with the university? Satisfied/not? Do you get enough training to go on and become a UX designer and how much of the uni work is directly usable for a portfolio? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am not currently at City, but I am the former head of the Centre for HCI Design. The Centre has a very clear focus on skills that translate to the workplace, and you should leave with a portfolio. HCID graduates have the highest UX salaries five years after graduating of any HCI masters in the UK by several thousands. I think that says it all. In my time the masters grew substantially, but it retains a lot of connection with practice and research today. Happy to set up a conversation with the current admissions tutor.
