Torrent on campus?

Hi guys
I'm a first year and live on campus (one of the uni accom)
I don't seem to be able to use Torrent, but I am able to do direct downloading.
Does everyone have the same issue or is it just my internet?:s-smilie:

the main server will restrict access to the ip addresses of the users sharing files over torrent clients...if your internet is linked to the uni then this is more than likely. its like when your using a home connection, you can access your router to enable port forwarding etc, but in this case you will not be authorised to change these settings.

My advice is to just go on massive torrenting sprees whenever you go home for holidays or whatever

Surrey uni had an internal DC++ connection so we could download whatever we want in a few minutes, and it wasn't filtered because nothing was leaving the intranet, do other unis not have one?

Turn on Forced Encryption in your client.

Or, better yet, just use Direct Download sites. Far safer.

Pay for films / music
Try using a VPN? Worked fine for me while staying in student accommodation while on NCS
