University of Essex

Hi, I am applying for Marine Biology 2024 at Essex University and it is in my top 2 (along with Southampton). I am uncertain of what the Uni of Essex is actually like (going to the offer holder day on the 3rd of April). I was just wondering if there are any current students who could give me an insight to the University of Essex and/or the Colchester Campus.

I am in my final year at Essex studying BA Sociology with Social Psychology.

The University of Essex defiantly has a lot to offer! As we are a campus uni, everything you could need is on campus. We have a shop where you can get all of the essentials, multiple cafés and food outlets, two bars and a nightclub. In terms of studying, we have a range of study spaces, an enormous library and many specialist facilities. Our campus also has lots of stunning outside spaces including two huge lakes, and there are BBQs for students to use too!

There are lots of opportunities to socialise and meet new people. We have hundreds of clubs and societies and the SU is always running events to cater to everyone.

There are lots of job opportunities at our campus. For example, I work as a Student Ambassador and a Social Media Ambassador. There is also the opportunity to undertake internships on campus that are run by the university.

Our campus also has great travel connections with buses going throughout campus very regularly. London is only an hour away by the train too!
