Indices

Hi, I always get confused with indices so i was wondering if anyone could quickly clear this up for me...

what is
x to the power of -2/3 , simplified?

Thank you!

It depends what you mean by "simplified" really. There are other ways you can write it (e.g. as a fraction where x has a positive power, or in surd form), but x23x^{-\frac{2}{3}} looks fairly simplified to me.

To work out the others, note that xn=1xnx^{-n} = \dfrac{1}{x^n}, x1n=xnx^{\frac{1}{n}} = \sqrt[n]{x} and xab=(xa)bx^{ab} = (x^a)^b.
