Physiology
a) Durkheim - women are biologically meant to socialise children & be care giver, therefore less crime
b) Polak - women naturally good at tricking men e.g. fake orgasms (yes, he actually said that)
c) Lombroso - idenitifed certain features of the face and feet that make you a criminal

Psychological
a) genetic / evolutionary accounts of aggression more prone in men
b) Eysenck - extroverts more likely to be deviant

Cheers man , much appreciated.

I am guessing in a sense the 2 ideas could be compared nature / nurture. Psyciological is concerning the genetic make up (nature) and Physiological approach is concerned with impact society has on individuals.

Or do I have completely wrong end of the stick ? Perhaps this will make more sense as I progress

Pretty much, but be aware psych explanations are an interaction between nature & nurture so don't pigeon hole them.

I was looking at the grade boundaries for this paper and there pretty low compared with the other units.

last year was 52/90 for an A and the year before was 55/90 for an A. Pretty nice boundaries I think.

Got any idea what a mid Grade C is? Because I need to get a mid C overall in Unit 3 and Unit 4 to get an A overall for the whole A Level!

if you look at the aqa website, it has a ums converter system so you can figure out roughly according to past papers what you need out of 90 to get a C
Last year (AS) was so easy.... they upped the difficulty levels! :frown:
Yeah revision is needed! hmm...

I best go do it now I have finally finished reading this thread :frown:

http://web.aqa.org.uk/UMS/index.php?id=04

and then you can roughly see what it was to get a C in past exam papers, hope this helps!

Haha seems your in quite the position. I need a D to come out with an A over all.

Too whom ever asked about C grade. C grade in jan 2010 was 39/90. Achievable
If i have to get a mid-C to get an A in Sociology overall, what do i need to get to get an A*, does anyone know?

I got 98% in my january unit. (NO IDEA HOW)

I don't really understand this? Although I may be being a bit stupid.
I got 100% in both the AS papers, but am sure that if I got a D in these exams would bring me down below an A grade! Are you just retaking one paper?

Do you have the breakdowns of all the grade boundaries (or a link to them)? I can't find them on the AQA website

Thanking you!

82% for the A*
I haven't taken unit 3 or 4 yet so doing them both this month - in unit one I got 80% and in unit two I got 96% roughly what would i need to get in units 3 and 4 to get an A overall the UMS mark confuses me :s-smilie:

wow 100% thats nice. It might bring you down below the A but that depends.
If you get 3 A's like I have done then in the final you can get a D and still secure it.

Alternatly if you get another 100% in the third exam you might even be able to get an E and it be ok.

Still Im aiming for the A*

Here are the breakdowns for Jan2011
http://store.aqa.org.uk/over/stat_pdf/AQA-A-LEVEL-GDE-BOUND-JAN11.PDF
an A was 52 and a C was 40

heres what I think your after
http://store.aqa.org.uk/qual/gce/pdf/AQA_W_2190_GS.PDF

just add up your UMS
so if you got 100% in both the AS
you would have 80+120 = 200 UMS
Assuming you get another A ( il take it as a bottom A because I don't know what you will actually get ).
Then you would have 200 + 80 = 280 UMS
Now look at the bottom where it says A level qualification
You see that you need 320 UMS overall for an A
in which case you would only need 40 UMS more which is a E
so turn up write your name and say something similar to sociological terms and you got the A in that case.

and in my case I have 257 UMS so far so I need 63 more for the A which is in the D bracket .
hope iv explained it well enough for you . Think its a similar case for Noodlzzzz too.

edit : just corrected my horrible maths.

You see that you need 320 UMS overall for an A
in which case you would only need 20 UMS more which is a U

Since when did 210 + 80 = 300? Also, the first exam was out of 80 :P
Apart from that, your correct. He would need 40 UMS to get an A overall, which is an E
