Whoever said if you linked it to if sociology is a science you wont get marks because that wasn't the question, cheeeers. I'm now ****ting myself.

Depends how you worded it. It was about values but if worded correctly you could have done the majority on soc as a science if you linked it back to the question. If you did a straight soc should be a science, shouldn't be can't be etc. then you may have missed a few marks.
People who claim "sociology is the easiest of subject" or "it's not as hard as psychology/maths/natural sciences"

The difficulty of subjects is relative to someone, not everyone else.
If the poster who said "sociology is the easiest" then im guessing they are quite good at sociology, however, im guessing (not fact so dont bite my head off if you do, do that subject) that he doesn't do physics, im guessing he would find that quite difficult. On the other hand, someone who is good at physics, might well find that sociology is difficult.

Therefore, noone has the right to say "that subject is easy and that one isn't" because you dont do ALL subjects, and not taught them, therefore you dont have the knowledge to claim that they are easy/difficult....

Me too im so pissed off. I might retake the exam next year without retaking the year if thats possible :frown:

I think in most places you can re-take as an external candidate, not sure if it costs extra though.

I may do, depending on the results. I really was expecting to be able to get an A* with this, and the other units went *so* well!

The most annoying thing about the value freedom question, was the fact clearly the dude sitting next to me hadn't a clue so decided he would instead swing on his chair and keep trying to cop a stare at my paper! Cheeky fooker!

The following is in this format: Grade/Raw Mark/UMS

Jan 10

Full marks 69/90 = 120/120

A 52 96
B 45 84
C 39 72
D 33 60
E 27 48

June 2010

Full Marks 67/90 = 120/120

A 55 96
B 49 84
C 43 72
D 37 60
E 31 48

Jan 11

Full Marks 64/90 = 120/120

A 52 96
B 46 84
C 40 72
D 34 60
E 29 48

I presume June 11 was definitely harder than the previous papers due to the 33 marker therefore, grade boundaries should be something along the lines of this...(bear in mind these are only my personal predictions):

June 11

Full Marks 61/90 = 120/120

A 48 96
B 43 84
C 37 72
D 30 60
E 25 58

Im just saying is sociology a science and objectivy plus value freedom are separate topics in the aqa textbook for a reason. But yeah they do link somewhat.

ALTHOUGH I do like to have a good argument...I have to hold my hands up and say I agree with you!

You are perfectly right. A few of my friends excel maths or natural sciences but would be absolutely shocking if they were to take sociology or a written based subject like english, history etc. Sociology requires you to be able to apply and evaluate knowledge sometimes where there is no clear cut answer whereas science or maths there can only be one answer, therefore being good at writing and expressing your arguments is a necessity in sociology which it is not in maths or physics.
Thanks...sorry for having a rant, just thought i had to say something, as it really annoys me!

My teachers comeback for showing that Sociology isnt a dud subject is by showing parents a list of top universitys that either run Sociology as a course, or accept it as a 'science' subject.

Usually shuts them up xD You cant really argue against OxBridge.
The awkward moment when your tutor doesn't teach "value-free" in the syllabus and it pops up as a 33 marker... THE BITCH!

I started writing about Functionalism and how Durkheim talks about Anomie (normlessness) and Parson's theory of norms and values being deeply ingrained through the process of socialisation via various institutions...

I'm so frickin' pissed!!
If I needed to get 52 out 120 ums marks what mark out of 90 did I need to get ? Does anyone know?

I wouldn't worry sooooo many people didn't answer the question properly if at all the grade boundaries will be low

I always worry about if i evaluated or just described. You should find if you were able to provide criticisms are alternate view points in each paragraph you make in support, you have done plenty.

Dont worry about it now. I was conscious of the time too but you need some confidence in it! You know how to evaluate by now after doing the whole course. You more than likely did plenty but your so used to evaluating stuff you didnt realise how much you actually did.

well... i need a C for an overall A so i hope even if it was pretty knowledge-based, it'll be ok  good luck!
