I think Il do try and avoid socialism 45 marks, find it unbelievably boring
How many topics you revising, and have you got unit 4 on the 16th?
Reply 4
not doing conservatism at all
yeah unit 4 on the 16th but find that much easier to be honest. really straightforward and less complex than unit 3

Don't suppose anybody can help me - Does synopsis apply to comparisons between ideologies or only between strands of that ideology? As in, if asked about individualism in liberalism, could you mention individualistic anarchism, or would that not be answering the question?
Reply 6
dont think that would be answering the question

are you thinking about a 45 or 15 mark question
Reply 7
whats the question title?
Reply 8
A 45 marker. I don't have a specific question I was more wondering as to whether synopsis was a internal or external thing.. I take it synopsis is simply looking at, for example modern and classical liberal views?
PS is anybody only studying 3 ideologies? In which case does anybody know which ideology had 2 15 markers in it in January?
Reply 9
in january there were two 15 markers on conservatism
im only doing 3 aswell - missing out conservatism
Reply 10
Oh okay... That's frustrating, Conservatism is my favourite one! Haha. Think I'll just cover all 4. I'm starting socialism today and it looks as if there is so much to know.
Reply 11
should mean though that there will be a defenite essay on conservatism this time around

socialism isn't too bad and I think its my strongest one - not too bad once you break it down

all the essays are pretty much around the same lines, 15 markers are pretty tricky though

Does anyone have a list of essay topics they could ask for each ideology? I know the spec changed so I'm not sure whether to prepare for some of the older past paper questions I found on here.

http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1301210

theres a long list of past questions here - most of the questions are alone the same line regardless of old/new spec

Thanks buddy! How is everyone going about revising?
Reply 15
seems like its just three of us doing this exam at the moment haha - just done a practice socialism essay, not too bad. was saying to myself the other day, I would much prefer it if there was just 2 big essays rather than the three small mark questions aswell as they're so varied.

I'm struggling with this exam. I got an E in January after not opening a book to revise, resting on the 'I can resit in summer' idea, big mistake!

For the essays, do you just talk about all the different factors of the ideology and relate it to the question? I'm struggling to see how to write so much on fairly small subjects.
Reply 17
give me an example essay question and we can try and plan it together

for unit 3 essays you usually have to be a bit more specific than the strands within the ideology

but for unit 4 you can pretty much just do as you said e.g

to what extent is feminism a single doctrine
liberal/social/radical/eco/conservative perhaps and relate it to the quesiont
Reply 18
Is socialism defined by the rejection of private property? 45 marks

I'm not doing ideologies for unit 4, doing global politics instead, thank god!
Reply 19
okay this question isn't too bad

you can basically list the different types of socialism and talk about their relation to private property.

fundamentalist (marx + engels) - reject the notion of private property in belief for common ownership of wealth
orthodox communists slightly along the same lines
social democrats reconclied with the idea of capitalism
third way pretty much the same as above

i would just go into details about their relationship with capitalism as that pretty much is private property
