OCR Political Ideas in Concepts

Got one big question on this exam - there was a question that said something like "Compare and contrast the rival theories of the state". It was pretty vague and some people I know wrote about social contract/organic theories, and some people wrote about the Totalitarian, Night-Watchman, Social Democratic and Collectivised states. Which was right?

Im confused about this too! I wrote about social contract and organic theories of the state because I thought the question would have been worded more like the rival interpretations of the role of the state had it been asking for minimal, social democratic, collectivised and totalitarian etc. However in the Heywood text book it refers to these 'roles' of the state as 'theories'.

I hope because the question was so ambiguous they will have to allow for that in the marking!
