Here are the questions/answers as far as i can remember.. If i did something wrong, tell mee and i'll change it. Can't remember the order of questions preciselyy

Q1.
i) Define Homeostasis [2]
ii) Negative feedback and controlling blood glucose level [6]
iii) How does the information of the patient show signs of Diabetes 1 and Diabetes 2 [2]

Q2.
i) Organ responsible for urea production - Kidney [1]
ii) How does a diet rich in protein causes lots of urea? - Protein broken HYDROLYSED down into amino acids, excess amino acids can't be stored, so undergoes deanimation and goes into the ornithine cycle > urea [3]
iii) What condition does glucose present in the urine indicate? - Diabetes [1]
iv) What chemical is present in urine for pregnant women? - HCG [1]

Q3.
i) How does the stick show LH is present in urine? [3]
ii) ??

Q4.
i) Labelling Chloroplast - Outer Membrane, Lamellae, Stroma, Granum [4]
ii) Where's CO2 produced in aerobic respiration? Link and Krebs [2]
iii) Where's O2 required? Oxidative Phosphorylation [1]
iv) B,B,N,N,C [5]

Q5. [Total 12]
ARGGHH GLASS BEADS!!
i) Why does he use glass beads in B? [3]
ii) Calculation - 0.0135 [2]
iii) How does he determine how many glass beads to use? [2]
iv) How does temperature affect rate of oxygen uptake? [2]
v) Why is the rate faster in soaked seeds rather than dry seeds? [3]

How does blood content change in someone with a damaged kidney? (can't remember where this question fitted in, think it was 5 c i) ?

Q6.
i) Filling the blanks [5]

?
Intensity and wavelength
Chemical (Taste and Smell stimuli)
Threshold Potential
?

Bottom two missing = sensory Receptor
This stimulates a nervous Impulse

For the calculation the answer would be 0.014 as the entire column was to 3d.p.

chloroplast labelling = outer membrane, Grana/granum, Stroma, Inter-granal lamallae

You also missed the questions on:
labelling the micrograph of the Kidney (2)
What is the Purpose of the Glomerulus (or something along those lines) (3)
Specialised Cell In the Bowmans Capsule (1)

What about the letters? For photosynthesis? I got B, N, N, N, C.
What did you guys put?

I got b b n n c
Am I going to lose marks for saying thylakoid instead of granum, and lamella instead of lamellae ????/ HELP PEOPLE

yes for thylakoid instead of grana/granum

Possibly for lamella instead of lamallae it depends whether the examiner notices or if the spelling is specified in bold...

thank you soo much x !! U have answered all of my questions on here!! btw, for diabetes u reckon it was necessary to say diabetes mellitus?

You're all mad. This was a VILE paper... barely any content at all. Where was all the stuff on saltatory conduction? synapses? action potentials? a PROPER question on respiration instead of the rubbish on glass beads and peas? a decent kidney question about reabsoption or osmoregulatory stuff? reabsorption of water? Nope none of that...

finally, someone who actually thought it was a bad paper, so depressing hearing the world and his dog go on about how it was a "sick paper, woo deffo getting 99.999%, me!"

THANK YOU

it depends how the exam board was feeling when they wrote the mark scheme. I think they probably will though since you clearly mean mellitus as it's the only type we've learnt about

Also you're very welcome

My biology teacher made us do an entire essay on diabetes insipidus

Although, I must say, "insipidus" is a rather fun word to say.

Would you lose a mark for putting 0.0135 instead of to 3dp?!!! That would be so mean!
DAMN, I put endothelial cells instead of podocytes. I'm so bloody stupid.

We don't get homework for biology.

Probably since all the rest were rounded up.
for the filling in the gaps did people put neurones instead of receptors.

what is the correct answer

I put epithelial cells and more stupidly put Basement membrane instead of bowman's capsule,

I put neurones!! It sounded so right but arrgghh I guess not

the fill in gaps at the end i put level instead of potential
chemical
frequency instead of intensity

do you reckon i still would get those marks?

I wrote frequency instead of intensity too. I think that it should be accepted
Wooo im the 2012th post discussing my first 2012 exam

(even though it went bad!)

I suspect a lot of people will drop marks that they think they would have scored. It's usually the case.
