OVER: Original mars bar. Of all the uber mainstream food products (walkers, coca cola, pepsi etc) Mars is the least appetising for me. I can't see why I'd ever crave a Mars over something more tantallising like a Fry's peppermint cream or a milkybar.

UNDER: Mars icecream. Probably the best bar turned icecream of the lot. Delicious mix of Caramel and icecream. Note: don't eat them when thy're rock hard.

OVER and UNDER of DRINKS AVAILABLE FROM A TYPICAL TEA/COFFE/HOT CHOCOLATE MACHINE
Reply 581
OVERRATED: CUPPA TEA. perhaps its because I'm a tea jenny but these are kinda like you explained how to make tea to an alien and it's their first go...

UNDERRATED: CHICKEN SOUP. The machine ALWAYS has this. It's like the yum flavour of "cream of chicken" without the offensive "Christ, it's like a pudding" factor of to tinned.

Overrated and underrated WAFER CHOCS?
OVER: Drifter. Caramel and wafer - that's it? Talk about boring. It's really dry too, if I ever attempt to talk with a Drifter in my mouth I end up spitting wafer crumbs everywhere (this happens far too often, #firstworldproblems)

UNDER: Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter. I know this is the only chocolate bar I ever seem to mention BUT IT'S SO DAMN GOOD! There's nothing else out there like it.

OVER AND UNDER OF: Roasted vegetables.
OVER: Roasted carrots. Why why why are these always here? Carrots are fine, but in small quantities otherwise they're just so samey and blergh. People thing roast veg = carrots but there are other options out there!

UNDER: Roasted red peppers. These guys are sweet, succulent and juicy and make a veg roast so much more interesting and nicer! Red peppers are so much better than green or yellow when roasted as well, they have so much more flavour. Just mmm....

OVER and UNDER of:

Toasted sandwich fillings
OVER: Ham and tomato. My mum always makes these. I don't get the point, you might as well just have a sandwich because the ham or tomato isn't really going to benefit from the heated toastie. I like ingredients that the toastie will actually affect.

UNDER: Chicken, stuffing and cheese. Try it! Obviously the cheese melts, automatically gonna make this delicious. But the chicken and stuffing added just gives that filling element and lovely flavour. A real meaty affair.

over and under of use of chocolate chips
OVER: Chocolate chip cookies. It's great, yeah. But the minute you buy a bag of chocolate chips, you are by some unspoken rule expected to return with a batch of cookies. Is it just me or do chocolate CHUNKS cut off from a big bar of chocolate go better in choc chip cookies?

UNDER: Stir it into peanut butter and eat it on (a) Toast; (b) a spoon; or (c) your fingers.

OVERRATED: NO BAKE FRIDGE CHEESECAKE.

Well done, you took a masterclass of mashing biscuits, then putting fruit and philadelphia and sugar on top. Nice one. Oh, you "made it yourself"? That's why you're all proud of yourself, is it? Here's one that looks better that my Boston Terrier made.

UNDERRATED: RICH TEA FRIDGE CAKE.

A prime example how the same practice can be applied elsewhere to a far more delicious yet humble, non-fanfarey result. This is actually the future king's favourite cake of all time, and he wanted it for his wedding day too. Basically chocolate fudgey base laced with chunks of rich tea, set in the fridge, with a ganache/solid choc topping. It's like Faffless Rocky Road.

OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED CRISP FLAVOURS?
Over: sour cream and onion. Constantly having to avoid those who have been munching on the crisps, due to the fear of talking to them with their sour cream breath in all its oniony glory. Ick.

Under: wasabi. Spicy, tasty, feels like eating sushi. Lovely.

Under and over condiments or toppings to eat a baked pretzel with?

Proper pretzels are a delight. Like a bagel did the dirty with a biscuit.

As such:

Overrated: CHEESE. Why always with the cheese?! Americans, you seem DETERMINED to die by 25!!

It does very little for the flavour; the pretzel is already soured dough and salted. Cheese brings like... Nothing new.

UNDERRATED: CUSTARD. British staple with American?? Blasphemous!! But in reality it's sweet, eggy, creamy and what a bagel CRAVES. seriously forego the choc/toffee for custard once, you'll understand.

Overrated and underrated PLACES TO GET READY COOKED CHICKEN?
Ready cooked chicken? So basically any place that sells cooked chicken...okay..

OVER: KFC. Yeah, it's okay for fast food, but that's what it is. Fast food, junk food, not perfect. So why do people bang on about it being the best place to buy chicken? Step out of KFC and buy yourself some proper chicken.

UNDER: The local butchers/supermarket/etc. You see this a lot more in European countries like France and Belgium, but buying the rotisserie chickens that are hot and freshly cooked are just divine. They're great to eat hot, but you can also let them cool down and have with a salad. Just...yum, and I really wish more places sold them. The smell is enough to get my hunger rolling.

OVER and UNDER of:

Deserts to eat with icecream
Reply 590
Overrated: GATEAU.
Cake and ice cream, ALL THE TIME. but gateaux are moussey, soft, moister (urgh) cakes that were designed to be eaten in solitude, a dessert requiring nothing else. Yet in UK we're obsessed with lumping ice cream with a chocolate gateau or dousing a black forest in cream. Pointless.

Underrated: BROWN DERBY.
A traditional pud sold only in the most nostalgic of eateries like Wimpy; a sugared ring doughnut with the hole filled with ice cream, nuts and choccy sauce. Doughnut is hot fried cake. Ice cream is sweet, cold cream. The almost dried crust melts into the melty soft vanilla for a sweet, salty, hot, cold, melty crunchy chewy SENSATION.

OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED FOODS TO EAT IF YOUVE ONLY GOT 15 MINUTES FOR LUNCH?
Slightly turned on after that last description Toto, food PORN.

OVER: Sandwich. Always the quick, "grab and go" food. But it leaves me wanting. A few chomps and it's gone. And it's hardly exciting, when someone says they had a sandwich for lunch, you assume they were busy.

UNDER: Noodle salads. I love these. Supermarkets actually do good versions. It feels filling cos you've got the noodles, usually there's a nice light dressing, it's better than the bog standard salad. Yum.

OVERRATED: PHILADELPHIA.

JESUS CHRIST ENOUGH ALREADY. Much like Special K, it is an utter failure at everything it is marketed as; as a "health cheese", it's surpassed even by supermarket own brands and "kiddy stuff", and as a taste sensation it's so muted that it is notable PARTICULARLY because it's so... lacklustre. And that's not a great USP. Moreover, the "Chocolate Philadelphia" thing was a good plug for a bit, but even that's tired. It's been out for months, it's sold balls-all, yes, it tastes like chocolate cheesecake topping, that's because that's what it is. JENNIFER SAUNDERS, YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS.

UNDERRATED: MARKS AND SPENCER SOFT CHEESE WITH CHIVES/ MARKS AND SPENCER CREAM CHEESE SMOKED SALMON DELI

Perhaps the single nicest cream cheese products I've ever eaten. The former is absurdly delicious whilst being nutritionally one of the lowest fat cream cheeses I have encountered (seriously, sounds like an oxymoron, it kinda is, but hey, Marks and Sparks sorcery again); the latter is like being kissed by an angel...fish. An Angel Mermaid, if you will. The best kind of mermaid. AMAZING.

OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED: GREGGS CAKES?

MR KIPLING CAKES?

I'm gonna stick with Greggs, if that's alright with everyone...

Over: Jam Doughnut. You're in Greggs, you have a whole cakey nation before you, and you go for a bit of dough and jam? You may as well go Tesco, 5 for £1.

Under: Fresh cream finger doughnut. Since you said cake and I was dying to say vienniese finger or double chocolate cookie but those damn technicalities get me every time! Anyway, as long as you're alone, the doors are locked and you have several hours to clear up, these things can be amazing. Creamy jammy apple and raspberry joy, and the cream actually compliments the doughnut unlike meringue shell cakes where it almost adds nothing. If you're not in the mood for the epic yum yum and are looking for something a tad more exciting, do it!

OVERRATED: SAUSAGE ROLLS.

Why do people CRAVE their sausage rolls?! ARGH. They're greasy, the sausage is meagre, gritty NONSENSE, and when I'm near a Baynes, Stephens, hell, ANY bakery, I'm certain that for perhaps 20p more, TOPS, I can get a gorgeous Cumberland sausage, fresh-made one over that nonsense. Check my reviews for the proof!!

UNDERRATED: BACON TWISTS.

Everyone knows about bean bakes and chicky-bakes and pizza slices. I talk too much about Macaroni pies for those to be a viable option. So I then go to BACON TWISTS!! Effectively a slice of back bacon with melted cheddar in pastry, it's a fat-laden salt fest, but it...is...AWESOME. And whenever I say I fancy one, people go, "Wh..what? What's that? I've never heard of that".

OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED SUBWAY BREAD TYPES (Italian, Hearty Italian, Honey Oat, Cheese and Herb, Wheat, Tortilla)
OVER: Italian. Oh, plain, plain people. You don't know what you're missing out on. I have nothing against any of the subway breads but compared to the other options this just seems so..standard. When I go out to eat, I wanna get something not commonly seen/made at home. I can get a standard italian sub from any supermarket and toast it.

UNDER: Cheese and herb. Not a case of simply "Oh people think it's better 'cos it's got cheese" - it's not even an overly cheesy taste. But it works SO well as a sub, especially toasted. Gives that edge to it, takes it to the next level. I really like it with the sweet onion teriyaki sub I get too.

over and under of Kipling cakes? (Stole your one Toto)
Over~ The fondant fancies. I'm not a huge fan of the sugar icing coat, and there isn't enough sweet cream inside for me. They do look pretty though!

Under~ The choc chip cake bars. They have a nice dense madeira base, a good scattering of choc chips and a really buttery taste. I like them because they feel heavy, not like the lighter than air sponge bases of some similar cake bars.

Over and under of Breakast bars?
Reply 597
Over: close call between nature valley bars or Nutrigrain (they've been around years and whilst they are filling they aren't really that great) .I guess Go ahead isn't a breakfast bar so I can't pick that. nature Valley bars may taste pretty good but for that many calories it certainly should! It's like a sugar overload yet people think they're healthy because of good ol' marketing spin. They aren't brekkie material, stop telling me it is!

Under: Tescos own strawberry cereal bars. Most supermarket own cereal bars are actually pretty good, but I recently tried this strawberry delight and I was NOT disappointed. Root for the underdog, screw nature valley and the bossy 'go ahead' bars - ill go ahead if I want damn it, not because you say - the tescos own bars aren't secret calorie ninjas, or tiny bars in a huge package; good size, nice taste, reasonable nutrition levels. Wus not to lurveeee?

Over and under of meal deal options?
Reply 598
Over: Garlic bread as a side with pizza. Browse most pizza menus and you'll find garlic bread as a default side on meal deals which is ridiculous given that garlic bread is not too dissimilar to pizza in the first place. Why not have onion rings or wedges instead?!

UNDER: Indian starters. There's such a fine variety of very distinguished foods like pakoras, bhajis, samosas, sheek kebab, chicken tikka....it's nearly sufficient to make a main meal from them.

OVERRATED: BOYYY, THIS WAS HARD.

But BN BISCUITS.

JESUS CHRIST. It's a chocolate sandwich butter biscuit? So it's just a Bahlsen HIT biscuit? Nahhh, this had a SMILEY FACE. OHH RIGHT. TOTALLY DIFFERENT THEN. Sandwich butter biscuit with chocolate filling... And a face... Like a WALLACE AND GROMIT BISCUIT THEN? NAHH. BNs had A SONG. Sigh. Wake up.

UNDERRATED: I want to be unfairly personal and vote Cartoonies, but speculating hard, it's a tie between MCDONALDS CHICKEN PREMIERE and KELLOGGS BANANA BUBBLES for their respective niche-fillings. The McChicken Premiere is STILL the only pure-breaded NON REFORMED chicken breast fillet burger McDonald's has ever produced, the McChicken Sandwich and even Legend have had SOME reforming, and every element from the herbed sour cream, bttavia lettuce and lightly garlicked artisan bun were utterly unique to it. Likewise banana bubbles- the banana-milkshake-flavoured Rice Krispies, were a pure, unique market product amongst the endless frosted, choco, or honey-nut variants on the shelves. We have to respect products like these two that do something TRULY different.
