I'm at nottingham about to go into my 4th year of mechanical engineering,
In response to your questions, it's easy to move between the Meng and Beng but you don't have to worry about that until the end of 2nd year so don't.
Second the computer programming language, we use Matlab, we don't learn any base level language, we simply learn how to use a program that allows us to write programs using its codes, don't worry it's really useful even if you can't programme a desktop pc with it.
But most importantly i am here to tell you about Mechsoc, the course society. Basically the best way to get pissed and meet other mechanical engineers, and usually a lot of girls at the same time! We have to do joint socials for that because believe or not there are not many girls who do mechanical engineering!
Anyway, its £10 for the entire length of your course, come find us at fresher's fair and for more info go here:

we do a lot of socials throughout the year from bar crawls, balls, to go karting and booze cruises with a lot of different societies such as the nurses, english, sociology, pharmacy (note: these societies contain more girls than guys)
