How insignificant it is in the grand scale of things.

How tiny seeds grow into huge trees

I find trees really fascinating... no idea why though

Trees are great! Most of their mass comes from the air, which is an amazing thought in itself.

As for what fascinates me - i think it's "ideas"... or maybe, the idea of an idea  like that eureka moment when you suddenly understand something - whether it's the moral of a story, the meaning of a song, or the solution to an equation. Terry Pratchett writes somewhere in Wyrd Sisters about "particles of raw inspiration" floating around the universe, waiting to collide with someone, which is a great way of putting it.
The human mind
The god concept
The concept of love
Whether everything in the universe is intricately intertwined or whether it's all in chaos and our minds are perceiving order because the human mind has a tendency to search for patterns
Human ignorance and stupidity
How to commit the perfect murder and how to get away with it
ZOMBIES! And my plan for when the inevitable zombie apocalypse occurs.

The origin of life on this planet and the origin of the universe itself. Everything beyond the earth is fascinating. Sucks I'll never get to visit any of it, nor know any of it's secrets. There's lots of stuff on this planet that's fascinating too, of course. But it's just not as interesting as it's so accessible.

Old thread.

Most things. It's hard to explain, but there is a lot that fascinates me, especially about life and death, of all animals and humans. How we can get energy out of the sun and water and stuff.

I know what you mean, I'm the same, I just find the world fascinating and history and how space doesn't have an edge and how we've invented touch screen things and how people age

Lol, I feel I need to get high to truly appreciate some of the things said in this thread:tongue:

And I would have to say technology. When you look at the world and think we just had things natural things, how man kind created the internet fascinates me. Especially when im in a high tech, urban area.
The most recent technological mind **** I've experienced was watching a video on advanced bionic limbs.

Also as humans, we feel natural animal instincts such as the effects of adrenaline but we are smart enough to analyse what is happening to us and why.

YES
I find it fascinating(and kind of sad) how obsessed we are with making divisions between people; the "the us vs them" culture which is so prevalent yet in times of hardship or when driven by our never ending curiosity we can al find common ground and collaborate and make wonderful things.

Also how economic systems develop and the way economic crises/bubbles evolve and grow and how they are dealt with.

Also tennis and Sherlock:wink:

just the scale of it all. looking up at the night sky and seeing thousands of stars and knowing that is only a fraction of what is out there. and yet despite being a brief and insignificant speck on the fact of the universe, we are so complex and do so much with our tiny lives.
How unique everything is to everyone.
-Nature fascinates me. I have a huge love for the arctic and all things snow
-How we can be capable of such kind things, and especially how people who have suffered and lost a lot in the lives are still capable of great love and forgiveness despite all they've been through
-How we're made up of so many cells and even though a million and one things could go wrong so many of us make it into this world pretty healthy, and just how generally fantastic our bodies are at functioning. And how many plots we have to deal with it when they don't function
-The human power of invention and creativity always amazes me. Old clocks in particular, they're gorgeous. But just, buildings and science and art and poetry and engineering, gahhhh, it's like intellectual porn.
-Space and the deep sea, the things we know least about. WE'RE STILL DISCOVERING NEW THINGS AND IT'S AMAZING.
-Animals, life in general, how they're perfectly evolved to their purpose, how amazingly varied and unique every animal is. I love foxes and tigers and whales and those tiny little deep sea fish that glow and the ones that live around vents and they shouldn't even exist but they do. Love it.

I love living. Faith in humanity restored *glares at nasty threads elsewhere*

My friend and I discussed the perfect murder. Although the perfect murder would be unsolveable which would mean someone would never be able to think of it and if you can think of it, someone else can.

But we had a theory. Then realised we may be sociopaths in disguise

Being a sociopath isn't such a bad thing. It helps if/when we need to prepare for these situations! :teeth:

That first point is a damn fine one. I never thought of it. It's making thinking of the perfect murder that much more difficult. There are a ridiculous number of articles online so rule 1 when we're presented with this situation would be to not Google "get away with murder". :ninja: Getting rid of the evidence wouldn't be so much of an issue. My only issue is how you'd stop yourself getting caught with the body (or a bag with the body or transporting anything that looks like it can carry a body) on CCTV. Also, the other major problem is if you're in the position with another person then there is a massive chance that the person will crack -- it's not safe to get others involved and if others were involved from the beginning then it's important to somehow uninvolve them. Possibly kill them too? :colone: Really, this is an act only the ruthless, the creative (in terms of strategic and methodical planning) and the emotionless can get away with. Sociopaths only, I say! :fuhrer:

There's the option of burning the body and pretending you died in the fire too -- maybe keep a tooth or something near the fire and soon after proceed to fake your death. The important thing in this is that you'd need to know certain people who can help you get a new identity, fake your murder, and not ask questions. I like this method but I just need to know how I'd go about faking my own murder.

Another option is to ask 4chan. At least a few of those crazy mofo's must have gone through this a couple of times!

Sometimes I think I've thought far too much about this. :getmecoat:
