help needed with hypothesis!

please could anyone help with the following...

In an experiment, we want to find out whether males have a faster resting heart beat than females.

The null hypothesis is: males do not have a faster resting heartbeat than females.

Is this a one tailed or two tailed test? :confused:

One tailed.

Although...shouldn't that be the alternative hypothesis?
I thought the null hypothesis is always supposed to deny i.e. should say there will be no significant difference between the heartbeat of males and females.
