Should the European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize?

Some people argue that after removing Assad's chemical weapons in Syria, the European union definitely deserve the prize. However some people believe that they haven't made any peace at all.

Any ideas to this discussion are welcomed.
Don't care. The Nobel Peace Prize is an absolute joke anyway.

Just to correct you, it was Russia which secured the agreement to have Syria give up their nuclear weapons. The United States (supported by EU countries) would have unleashed missile strikes on Damascus if this didn't happen.

European Union policy has resulted indirectly in deaths due to the rioting which followed in riots against the Euro. Someone may argue that the EU deserves the prize because there has not been another war in Europe but communication and cooperation stops war, not a political union.

The EU should have got it at some point after WW2 but i'm not sure they deserve it right now.

okay I understand what you are trying to say but what about the
EU's contribution to improving the economies of European countries after the depression of world war. This is true considering that Greece' economical crash was due to their actions not the unions, as they made the choice to host the 2004 Olympic games in Athens which is one of the most significant reasons for their downfall.

You do realise the EU is one of the most significant instantiations of "communication and cooperation" in human history? Ergo, by your own lights, it mitigates war.

It is but we do not need to be in a political union for communication or cooperation.

Read the excellent twenty years crisis by EH Carr the only thing that stops wars is power. Hence the failings if the League of Nations and the UN. It's why a federal Europe needs to quickly develop military capabilities in order to better play the game if international politics.
