Student Payment Date problem..

Hey all,

I'm currently experiencing major financial difficulty, unable to pay rent etc. (aren't we all!) and was wondering if anyone has ever been successful in getting the SLC to pay out before the planned date?

Let me know - thanks all!

I've never heard of anyone being able to do this- and you need to think through the consequences of this- if they paid early, you would have longer to last before your next payment (which will not be released until you've enrolled into second year).

If your financial difficulty is caused by a short term crisis, can you get a hardship payment from your uni?

If you're just long term not able to manage on your loan, then it would still be worth getting a hardship payment, but also think about why you're struggling. Are your rent/outgoings too high? What can you do to reduce this next year? Can you earn some money over the summer or during term time? Could you consider taking out an overdraft for short term emergencies? Are your parents able to help at all/more?

This is the problem, I'm 2nd going into 3rd year. I stupidly got into financial issues last year which meant I have exhausted all options this year. We're talking payday loans, the lot. I'm so stuck and doubt that uni will help me out considering I got myself into this mess.
I literally have no clue what to do.. :/

You should have spoken to your uni before going to payday lenders, but please speak to them now. I am sure they will help you in any way they can- with both financial advice and help- hardship payments are usually made on the basis of need, not on the basis of why you're in financial hardship. They won't want you to drop out due to your financial situation, so they will want to help you.

If your uni aren't very experienced at dealing with debt like payday loans, it might also be worth getting help from a debt advice charity, such as step-change http://www.stepchange.org/?redirect=sessionwebsite who will be able to talk you through all your options and may be able to arrange agreements with your creditors to allow you to afford to live next year.
