The most popular way to go about this is probably to mention how it happens (e.g. the PDD model (protest, despair, and detachment) and its support), the effects of deprivation (e.g. - Bowlby's study of forty-four thieves), and then some research into reducing the effects of deprivation(e.g. Skeels and Dye's study showing that the deprived can recover better if they live in a supporting environment). Evaluate them respectively.

This is a broad question so you could probably find a lot of other research to mention. Look in some mark schemes for further clarification.

So you would talk about the baby John study done by Robertson and Robertson and how they found that John showed PDD (protest, despair and detachment) and talk about bowlbys 44 juvenile thieves study and how this shows that maternal deprivation leads to delinquency and thus criminal behaviour. You could also talk about the main causes of deprivation which are death of parent and divorce and then go onto evaluate the baby John and juvenile study. And then conclude by saying how deprivation could be deuces by making sure the conflict is kept to a minimum, children above the age of 2 attend daycare to make sure they've formed an attachment during the critical period, children should have contact with their non custodial parent and thee should be an adequate substitute caregiver. This is on page 39 in the edexcel book and the juvenile study is page 47.

So if you had an essay question you would first define it. Then talk about research that has been conducted into privation and whether this shows it can be reversed or not. Talk about genies case study and show how this means it can't be reversed but then you could say the reason why it couldn't be reversed was because she was retarded. You could also talk about the Czech twins and show that how with good care they overcome privation. You can also talk about the English Romanian adoptees which found that the earlier you're find the more the effects are reversed. However you could criticise the research saying it cannot be generalised because they're unique case studies and use the factors in the text book which shows the research into privation.
