I'm also a 'mature' student applying for Vacation Schemes. I don't see why these factors should hold you back - there are plenty of firms that will value your prior experience. I think the challenge is trying to demonstrate how the skills acquired in your previous roles can be transferred to the position you are applying to. As well of course, providing a good reason for the change in career.
