Mechanical Engineering at Swansea

Hi there. I have applied for Mechanical Engineering at Swansea was just wondering, what is the Engineering department like? Are the lecturers really helpful? How is the workload? Also, are you happy with your decision to study Mechanical Engineering at Swansea? :P

I am torn between Swansea & Sussex !

Thank you !

I cant really help you on some of this but Swansea has a very good reputation for Engineering. It has just opened the new bay campus at a cost of £450 million and is backed by many leading companies. As an example Rolls Royce has opened a research centre there. There are currently some teething problems as not everything is totally ready but will be by next year. It only opened in September and things like shops, banks and sporting facilities have been slightly delayed.

As far as the difference between Sussex and Swansea Brighton is a larger city with less rain. Swansea has the benefit of being on a beach whereas Sussex is a couple of miles out of town.

it is going to be very difficult to find anyone who can comment on both as people will only have been to one or other university. the best you could get is posting on Sussex to get an opinion one there. It would help attending visit days and comparing them. What one person prefers might not be the same for another person

I will be attending the Swansea visit day on the 6th February
I'm studying A levels and have receivedoffers from both Swansea and Manchester, Liverpool for Aerospace Engineering, Iknow Swansea have a better ranking in Aerospace Eng and did a lot of researchfor the aviation industry but Manchester& Liverpool are members of the Russel group and have better uni overall. Any suggestions on what I should choose formy firm & insurance? Overall ranking & subject ranking,Which one is more important? Thanks The following are my Application details- Swansea (MEng Aerospace engineering):conditional AAB include Maths excluding Chinese- Manchester (BEng Aerospace engineering): conditional AAB - Liverpool (MEng Avionic):conditional BB (excluding Chinese)I prefer Manchester as my firm choicebecause of is good overall ranking. My Current Result:AS Level Grades (achieved/predicted): ABBC(Mathematics, FP Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics)A2 Level Grades (achieved/predicted):achieved AA (Mathematics,Chinese) predicted A* BBB (Mathematics, FPMathematics, Chemistry, Physics)
