Baldness

OP did you say your age? Its rough but quite common and even more testing if you are a woman. You just have to ignore the ones that arent shallow and work on other apsects. I know a few bald colleagues and it doesnt hhinder them too much or at all becayse they have good confidence.

You did right by shaving it off. Its pretty common in the City. Stress does things to you.

You think you're doing right by shaving it but many people try to 'put you in your place' about it by asking why you've done it, stereotyping you as the bald guy or just daying you look like a thug. It's a no win really. Stress isn't anything to do with baldness in men. It's genetic and normal...it's just society is stupid about it. Half of the celebrities which women hold crushes for have some degree of hair loss but they just cover it up in some way or other or get transplants..that is part of the problem. The bald guy in a film has to either be the action hero, if not be is the evil/ugly one.

In bars/clubs? OK. I'll give you three scenarios, things which happened to me, all in my twenties, long after my hair started thinning.

1.

Twenty-second birthday. The girl serving the shots at one bar came with me to another bar when the one she was working at closed for the night. Not only did she take my phone off my and put her number in it - without my asking - she got us both thrown out of the second bar by kissing me, very openly and very hard, in front of the doorman.

2.

One Saturday night when I was abotu twenty-three, my brother, eighteen at the time, asked me how to talk to women. To show him that you just talk to them like people, I struck up a conversation with two women sat at the bar. i had both their phone numbers within ten minutes. I didn't tell them my motivation until after, at which point they started talking to him.

3.

I did a little bit of burlesque dancing with a friend at a local club - a double-act play-fight in costume. After he and I had finished our spot on stage, we got back into our normal clothes and just watched the other acts. We were talking to people, some of which we knew, others we didn't. We had a fun evening and stayed there 'til about two in the morning, and as we were walking the cider and wine and God knows what else off, he informed me that all the women there had been openly hitting on me, and how did I not even notice.

So here's what I think. You're thinking too much about it and reading too much into it. You're probably trying to make it look like you're not losing your hair, which will just make you look worse. Probably there's such a lack of women posting here because they are just going 'LOL NEXT' when they see your whiny little thread.

Want to talk to women? Go over your scalp with a two- or three-comb and act like that's how you always looked. Suck it up and be who you are - which consists of more than how much hair you've got on your head.

/thread.

I shave my hair short, no covering it up. The dating site stuff is real..so is the change of reactions from women in general. I have comments about baldness/shaving my head all the time. People let me know in mo uncertain terms that they preferred how I looked with hair.
To me not all bald men are attractive likewise not every thin women are attractive to some men, it all depends what the person prefers in a man.

I've seen men who have so much hair that if their character is beautiful it does not matter to me otherwise I would neither go for bald nor go for hairy men.

With regards to the "which gender is more shallow" debate, something tells me most men wouldn't be into bald women...just saying

Though I'm not exactly experienced in this regard, dating apps don't seem the place to go unless you are extremely attractive in a physical sense.

Well that's not really a fair comparison since baldness is a normal and healthy trait caused by testosterone which is present in men. Regardless I've seen some attractive women who shave their heads but is so rare. I have no doubt which gender is more shallow hence me making this thread. Reading the other thread I couldn't even believe it was up for discussion.

Also what you say about dating sites is true - for men. Even an relatively unattractive woman will get messages on dating sites.

Maybe it would be even worse if I lived in Sinapore... take a look at this and tell me these women aren't shallow b*tches...sorry but they just are.

Yeah I realise it isn't equivalent, didn't mean it in a particularly serious fashion.
However I am not sure if it is necessarily more shallowness, or just more pickiness in general. Like men could appear less shallow because they are more likely to get with someone who falls below their ideal in terms of physical traits, but they're probably also more likely to get with someone whose personality isn't ideal to them. So I don't really see evidence that women focus more on appearance relative to personality than men do, rather that women are more picky with both.

Well some are pretty shallow yeah, but that's just a few people and is a pretty meaningless video.

The video was done based on a study which said 2/3 of women won't even consider dating a bald man.

http://nypost.com/2015/09/29/two-thirds-of-women-in-singapore-wont-date-bald-men/

Given the fact that the other 1/3 will also have the choice to choose whoever they want and you may as well move country if you are a bald man in Singapore and want to have a normal sex/dating life.

But certainly on dating sites, it is not much different here in my experience. If you are a guy, shave your hair off stick the photo on a dating site - you will see. Imagine if the men were the same about women - the feminists would be shouting from the rooftops about what pigs we were.
Being bald on dating sites is not a good representation. I've seen many profiles where women outright state they do not want to talk to bald men.... instantly a turn off anyway. However I do find it quite funny, seeing I live in an 'everyone knows everyone' semi-rural area, and I've seen many such girls with bald bf's or making out with bald guys on nights out.

From personal experience I had a massive ego boost the first time I shaved my hair. My hair has always been thinner than most, but didn't start thinning until around 3 years ago at 21, it wasn't exactly bad until about a year ago. A week before a trip to sunny beach with my uni mates I decided to just shave it. The very first night I had two girl dive on me like I never had experienced before. The entire week wasn't exactly as crazy but I hardly struggled for attention. Talking to my friends they said while I looked less attractive in terms of my head, it mad my overall physique look better, seemed more confident and much more mature.

I did decide to grow my hair back seeing I felt like I had too much hair left to shave it already, but a year later it's a borderline comb-over. Since shaving again a few weeks ago I had a gaming clan meet last week. During the night out I reverted to the amount of attention I got when younger and during the early days of uni. A different group of friends said I look more sophisticated, 'harder', suits my physique more, far more confident and with a massive boost in clothing style was really good. According to the feedback I've got nothing looks worse than really bad thinning hair, and lets face it, it's really hard to do anything with thinning hair anyway.

TLDR version, if it's thinning just shave it. You may notice a hit on dating sites, but in the real world face to face it will probably improve your image.

Mine is shaved but it doesn't look great because of the receded pattern at the front. It makes a bald spot at the back less noticeable though.

Go shorter then, my hairline at the front is weird as hell and receding. The first time I shaved it, it wasn't short enough so looked weird.

How short do you go? Do you get the p*ss take comments? I get people joking about coming out of prison etc

Mines a 1, maybe slightly longer. I had a 3 last time and it was too long seeing you could still see hair on the top. As a 3 it looked extremely silly with light behind it (albeit not as bad as it was with hair), but looked really good at a distance.

With the 1 it doesn't look quite as good from a distance, I look like I have pretty much have a bare head, but up close it looks much better and I don't have to worry about lighting.

That said both 1 and the 3 looked better than my hair before I got it cut this time. Most the negative comments funnily enough come from other guys and more directed in a banter direction (most saying I look like my dads twin *shudders*). Most serious feedback say it's an improvement and they really admire my balls for shaving my head despite only being 24. From women the worst I've got is "I don't really like it" or "why did you shave your hair!". By large however I've received many more compliments than shitty comments.

I did get a few EDL jokes or *thug* jokes, but once again the feedback was more around making sure you wear correct clothing. Football shirts are a 100% nono (no tears lost for me), other sports team clothing can be hit and miss too. Some clothes such as shirts now look much smarter on me, while some clothing just makes me look like a thug.

I wouldn't call it shallow, it's just that females in every evolved species are far more picky than males, this is how sexual selection works and how species improve genetically. What is annoying is how few women realize it or admit to it.

Women: "The main features i look for in a man is a a man who's sensitive, caring, understanding and a good listener"

Lol please quit with the bullsh*t

So this weekend I was out and chatting happily to some guy in a bar about sport when his girlfriend walks over. Says to her boyfriend "who's this?"... "Why are you chatting to him?".... Looks at me and starts rubbing her head in a mocking way as if to say "you're a loser because you're bald" before turning away to leave both me and her boyfriend a bit speechless. At the time I was drunk and I didn't process it but honestly afterwards I thought back and can genuinely say that if that girl got hit by a bus on her way home I wouldn't give a damn. 1) Bald guys face actual discrimination I'm realising - imagine if someone did that to a person based on their race. 2) Women in this day and age are the shallowest/nastiest b*tches probably of all time. Tinder told me all I needed to know when I started to lose my hair...but it's out and just all around. And the worst thing is that even some of the least attractive and vacuous women think they are above you and 'can do better' because of it.

yeah dating sites that rely on pics.... yeah us bald guys don't do too well. However when I'm on nights out with mates, I still get similar amounts of attention. However my gf doesn't mind my shaved head so I'm extremely lucky.

Yeah you're fortunate in that respect. Did you meet your girlfriend while you were bald or before? You seem to have a good attitude to it anyway. It just frustrates me so much that people (e.g. that girl i mentioned) can be rude enough to actually come up and mock me for having a shaved head. People definitely treat me differently to when i had hair. Are you a tall guy btw?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Girls are shallow and twisted when it comes to choosing guys. Don't ever believe a girl when she says that she wants "personality, sensitivity, caring" etc because that's BS. We all know girls only choose the conventionally good-looking guys because it's built into their base instinct. With their shallow dumbass brains they think only the most attractive guys will be the best boyfriends - and more often than not, those guys turn out to be a-holes who treat them badly. Still the girls go back to the same guys and the cycle repeats itself. Girls can easily work out for themselves that there is more to a guy than just the way he looks, but they choose not to listen.

OP, I'm sorry to hear about about your struggles with losing your hair. That's out of your control. What you should do now to counteract that is work on yourself and your self-confidence. Work on your career, keep up your hobbies and interests, socialise with people, wear nice clothes. Go on nights out, display that confidence to people and eventually the girls will take better notice of you. Get in the gym and build a better body, cos there's nothing girls love more than a gym body even though they all refuse to admit it. If I were you I would actually embrace the stereotype of bald guys being thugs - the more you look like a thug with a built body, the more girls will find themselves attracted to you. It's what hormones have programmed them to do, and they can't help it. Why do you think stars like Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are so attractive to girls? It's not just because they're bald - it's because they're bald AND well-built. I suggest that's what you aim for. Don't let the hurtful comments get to you because then you just accept defeat. I've had the same kind of comments from guys and girls about my hair, even though I haven't lost much (yet). Use your bad experiences as motivation to work hard in the gym and make some gains. You know already that all girls are shallow, well now you can use that to your advantage and manipulate them into sleeping with you next time when they see the size of your arms, lol. Work hard at it and eventually the tables will turn in your favour.

Because men aren't shallow in the slightest.
Who cares about dating sites, honestly, they're a waste of time. You can be handsome and charming, but as a man you'll be turned down by almost every single girl on there. They're effectively ego-stroking sites for women. Men spend hundreds a month on these sites but get nowhere - check out some of the documentaries, a lot of the men shown are turned down or stood up.

I'm balding too; I've shaved my hair off and I'm actully getting more attention from women - and good women at that. This could also be down to the fact that I dress well, but it shows confidence and maturity.

There are plenty of women out there who don't care if you have hair or not - they want you.

I would agree that women, especially in my generation, are becoming increasingly shallow. This is primarily down to social media.
