I'll tell you now that I focus on the Restored Bourbons 1815-1830 so a little later than your studying but I do know a bit about the French Revolution and Napoleon so I should be able to help you.

I assume by the seperation of power they are trying to mention the process from: Absolutism ---> Constitutional Monarchy (1791) ---> Proclaimation of the 1st Republic.
You will need to be mentioning some of the reforms of government during this period, e.g. Calling of the Estates-General 1789, Calling of the National Assembly, Declaration of the Rights of Man, the transition to a constitutional monarchy, and finally the Kings flight to Varenne and the proclaimation of the 1st republic.

I hope that is a gist of what that question is about, I hope that the seperation that they are mentioning is about Louis XVI's seperation from absolute power over these years.
