Essay Writing Tips

Do you have any web resources (or tips from your school of history) on writing a history paper for an undergraduate course?

I'm trying to spice up my papers and see if I can make them better before their due date.

HistoryToday.com has some really good essay writing tips in its archive, if you or your department have an online subscription to them?

1) Demonstrate that you know your subject
2) Demonstrate that you understand the material about your subject
3) Organize your paper around the first two points
4) Write coherently, clearly, and preferably not in the same dreary manner which every other essay submitted will be in.

Always speak (or write, as it were) to the audience. Your markers will be academics I presume, so you should write in a manner which they will understand and be more familiar with. Good substance + good style = good essay! :smile:
