Hello there!
It has been 4 years since you made this query but it is exactly like my situation right now. I got admitted to Mac clinical psychology without accreditation. I am from India with bachelors in psychology. I don’t know whether doing msc clinical psychology is the right thing. I too want to follow the path to Clinical psychology later or atleast assistant psychology.
If you see this, can you please please reply and share your experience because I am in a complete confusion and disaster.
Thank you!

hello,

You may want to contact the BPS and ask for advise as you need a GBC to become a clinical psychologist for the doctoral programme. As you already have a BA, I'm unsure if you would need to go a conversion. In my experience, my masters was a BPS accredited conversion and after that I specialised with a masters in clinical psych and mental health. Hope that helps

Tbh, they are the most unhelpful ones. I contacted them and they asked me to fill out a form to apply for accreditation after which they will assess and let me know. The application itself is expensive with no guarantee that my degree will be accredited.
Unfortunately, no one here other than the BPS is going to be able to answer your question accurately about having GBC -because that is pretty much their job.

As for the other part I am just going to cut and paste what I have written elsewhere on this forum for a similar query.
-------------------------------------------------
You need to be very, very careful. I often come across people from India who have been sold a dream of doing a psychology conversion or masters course and going into massive debt, with very little to show for it. Many universities use these as cash cows. They can promise what they want but don't have any obligation to deliver on you getting qualified as a psychologist. GBC is a fairly low bar that many, many people have and you can read about the actual acceptance rates online for getting onto a DClinPsy at the Leeds clearing house for clinical psychology.

Appreciate that this is anecdotal but I have worked as a qualified clinical psychologist for about 15 years have supervised dozens of DClinPsy trainees and have not yet come across one person with an Indian degree getting onto a DClinPsy. In contrast, I have met lots of lots of students from India in exactly your situation who have paid huge amounts to get GBC with high hopes to get onto training without knowing the wider picture and it breaks my heart.

This is so heartbreaking because I have processed everything and I just need to pay the deposit now. I really wanted to be a clinical psychologist there. But I don’t know why, since a few days I am having my doubts. Since yesterday, I am also considering just going for nursing. Maybe I will just go for nursing now. But this is very disappointing and sad.

Hi Shaili,
I don't have the answer you are looking or but I sure would like to tell you a few things to consider before you make a move.

1.

Do you know you will have to complete a 3 year PsyD (equivalent to PHD) course to actually be able to practice as a clinical psychologist in the UK?

2.

If you have Psychology honours from India (3 years), then you would most likely not have to apply for a conversion course, but if you did something like a triple major then you would definitely. I am finishing this course right now, and 3 of my fellow students have BA in triple major, one of it being Psychology.

3.

If your answer to point 1 is yes, I would like you to consider the amount of money you might be spending in doing this.

4.

Have you considered applying for MSc. Clinical Psychology in India?

I am applying for MSc Clinical psychology this year, that's only because I did the conversion course last year and to practice anywhere in the world you AT LEAST need MSc. in clinical psychology. Also, I applied for the conversion course because I was already done with my undergrad in 2014 and didn't want to study for 3 more years to get Psych Hons.

I hope this helps you, let me know if I could help you in any way

Can I get jobs in healthcare as an international student if I just complete a Msc in Clinical Psychology?
