Psychology conversion course queries.

Hello, I want to switch my career to Psychology and I don't have a Bachelors degree in Psychology, I have few questions here it goes:
1. Which course should I go with Masters in Psychology or the Conversion course in Psychology?
2. Which Universities should I go with as I am not sure of which Psychology branch I am interested in?
3. Is it necessary to do Masters in Psychology again after doing the conversion course?

Please help with the questions. Thank you.
1. If you want to be a practicing Psychologist, you'll need to take a conversion course. You need it to be BPS accredited and for it to confer eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the BPS. See the list of such conversion courses here. They're (almost) all Masters degrees anyway, so you're killing two birds with one stone.

2. It doesn't matter. The conversion course will cover Psychology generally and won't focus on a particular branch of Psychology.

3. One you've worked out which branch of Psychology you want to pursue you'll need to take a Master's or a Doctorate in that particular branch. Some branches - e.g. Forensic - require a Master's before you can practice. Others - e.g. Clinical - require a Doctorate.

Note that there are many more Psychology graduates each year than there are available places on postgraduate Psychology degrees (and jobs). As a result, it's highly competitive at postgraduate level; also, to access some postgraduate courses (e.g. Clinical) you'll need plenty of relevant work experience too.

Hi! 👋🏻
If you want to switch career options to psychology then you will need to go with a conversion course Msc which is accredited by the BPS. You can't practice psychology in the UK without having graduate membership from the BPS! When looking at conversion masters just double check that the masters is accredited by the BPS! 🙂

Don't worry about specializing just yet! The conversion masters will cover all the basis and is a good stepping stone to further career options. You might change your mind as you go through the course so don't worry. 😁

It isn't necessary to do another masters after if you want to do clinical or psychological wellbeing practitioner work. As long as you have graduate membership from the BPS you are good to go. However, jobs in psychology are super competitive so some people might do a specialist masters after to stand out. However, for forensic or health psychology you would need a masters as this is a requirement. This is not a requirement and is completely optional! I would recommend trying to get some work experience alongside this ads most jobs will require at least one year of relevant work experience. This could be as a mental health support/recovery worker, a helpline volunteer or health care assistant! 🤗

I hope this helps! 📎
