We used 'Tout Droit' for AS-level: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tout-Droit-Students-David-Mort/dp/0719575338/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217945475&sr=8-2,

and next year we're using 'Droit Au But' for A-level: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Droit-Au-But-Avancae-Students/dp/0719575362/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217945522&sr=1-1.

They're very good, but we used different stuff for grammar work. My teacher just photocopies sheets from her grammar book, I'm not sure what she uses but for my own personal reference, I use this book here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/French-Grammar-Complete-Reference-Guide/dp/007144498X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217945664&sr=1-1, which I find very useful. Especially the bit towards the end about which verbs use 'à' and which use 'de' - absolute god-send!

Hope that helps, good luck!

We used Zenith for both AS and A2.

I also used these books, very good layout content.
But you will want to get your hand on the teachers book and tape etc if you want the excercises and translations to be of any use.

And you might want to think about finding a Qubecois (is that right...the french they speak in french canada) book, there are sutle differences.
So might be worth finding one of these books to give you a slight head start on the slang.

I suggest heading down to your local library to see what they have on offer, if you dont want to go spending too much money on it.

We used Au Point, which has the added advantage of covering AS and A2 in one book. There's also a supplementary self study book here and a website here set up by the publishers which covers grammar points, vocabulary etc.
at our school we used both Au Point and Tout Droit
you may also want to look at getting a subscription to the French Authentik to provide supplementary reading material to expand vocab and structures and whathaveyou.

Oh thanks for the tips guys and girls. Much appreciated.

I've taken out Michel Thomas's foundation course in French as a refreasher. Sadly my university does not have the text Books mentioned, but i'll check the council library. I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible as i spend too much money on books as it is... (English lit student )
