Is Coventry Uni a good uni?

Coventry uni seems to be outperforming some of the Russell groups. I read some reviews saying that it's bad but these were from 2018. This is for 2021 entry for Psychology.Do you think it's a good place ?
I study here and in my opinion, it is an amazing uni.

Hi elena2003,

I have had a great time at the university and have gained a lot from it. One particular area I find to be the best is that the teaching staff really passionate and care about what they teach which makes learning their subject so much better. They are all very knowledgeable in their subject areas and are always willing to help by holding academic surgery hours and will always help you over emails.

The Talent Team are amazing too and helped me immensely when securing a placement year by helping me write my application, edit my CV and also did mock interviews with me before my real one. This has given me so much more confidence that I will be able to get a job after graduation.

The facilities of the uni really impress me as well as there are so many resources available to you to help when studying.

Every university has their faults (sometimes feedback on coursework can be a little slow - mainly because there are a lot of students on my course and changes to the timetable can be last minute) but what I really like about Coventry is they genuinely take feedback on board well. At the end of each module you are given a questionnaire to fill out about how it went and the lecturers always ask us if certain procedures are working well. I have also had the chance to take part in review panels in front of the academic staff and give my opinion and feedback face to face which was a great experience to know they are taking what we say seriously.

One piece of advice I would give to make your experience the best is always seek the opportunities yourself here. They don't always come to you like maybe in school. You have to be proactive to look at placement opportunities or experiences abroad for example yourself (which I know the psychology course really does!) to get the most out of your experience because they are all available to you to find.

To answer your other question too, there is an amazing mix of people from different cultures here and there are many international students that join us each year. One great way to connect with each other is through the many societies representing each culture that you are welcome to join. Societies are a great way to meet like-minded people and there are lots of events that the university puts on to be inclusive of everyone.

I hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask us!

Hey there!

Now that I am approaching the end of final year, I would like to share my opinion of Cov Uni

All those years ago when I was selecting my university choices the main reason for Cov being my firm choice was influenced heavily by its employment support.

Throughout your years there, you will receive support regarding job applications, CVs, cover letters, interviews, assessment days, online games (which is becoming a popular choice for big-name employers), the list goes on. They also host frequent career fests and have plenty of professionals attend guest speaker talks.

Another strong asset of Cov Uni is its commitment to student engagement. They consequently hold forums and invest in their student union to ensure feedback is being heard and delivered. This may not seem a lot when choosing a university, but some big changes have happened thanks to student engagement.

Also, Coventry being a city campus means it is very convenient! Everything is within walking distance, there are plenty of restaurants, bars and quirky little places to check out including Fargo Street which specialises in independent brands.

Hope this helps!

It's a tough decision to make! I haven't looked into graduate roles yet myself however, when I had my interview for my placement year last year, they actually preferred students from Coventry university over students from Warwick because we were better prepared. From my experience though, what university you attend isn't always the first thing employers look at. Previous experience and areas where you have gone above and beyond in your studies really stands out more - something which Coventry university offers a lot of! And in my opinion, Coventry is a really good university (15th Guardian University Guide Tables) and I wouldn't say that having this university on your CV should to make you any less of a candidate than someone who attended a Russell group university.

Choose a university where you can see yourself living and will get the most out of your time, not just the degree part!

Hope this helps

Hi @elena2003,

My suggestion would be to check out where you would enjoy living as university is living and gaining experience as much as studying for a degree. Also, check out what modules they each offer for your course and decide what you are more interested into.

Regards to employment, at Coventry you will receive great support from internship to graduate role. I personally, completed a placement year in Lincoln at Siemens as a Strategy and Portfolio intern and now due to start Tax Associate role in September at PWC. So, you can see that attending a Russell group or not will not make a difference on whether you'll be able to get a placement and graduate role in a well-known firm.

Hope this helps you make a decision.
