Sussex or Nottingham!

I am doing a neuroscience course but am stuck between Sussex and Nottingham, I like both courses so am deciding based on the social life.
I’ve been told that Nottingham’s social life is best on park campus however the only accommodation available is catered and shared bathroom which I was not keen on having (the only en-suite rooms left are too expensive).
Sussex looks good however I don’t know what the social life is like, I’ve heard the nightlife in Brighton is good but what about on campus (flat parties etc)
sussex has more accommodation that I prefer (en-suite and self catered on campus) and from what I’ve heard it’s quite good

Any advice would be really appreciated

As a student at UoN I second that - the staff support is unreal and the night life is famous for being great.

Thank you! I think I’m definitely leaning towards Nottingham atm, what accommodation did u chose and do u think catered is better than self catered ?

Self-catered is better for the flexibility of it, and it is cheaper than catered. With catered, you will always have to have an eye on where your friends are so that you can sit down for meals with people you know.

So first off the Nottingham student life. Most of the nightlife isnt on any of the campuses its in the city centre, their is sports and societies on campus although you dont need to be living on campus to go to them. Their are halls on and nearby campus all of which are fine for accessing uni park.

Additionally picking a university based on halls is not a good idea, a lot of how good your halls experience is down to what you make of it, and you only live in halls for 1 year, your more then likely going to get student housing for the majority of your time at uni.

Its been a long time since I was a fresher, but I think the social aspect of catered halls is quite nice, me and my friends used to head down at the same time every day, if we had commitments it was no problem, eating by yourself the odd occasion isn't that big a deal.

Hello,

Generally speaking, the bigger flats (e.g., Park houses, East Slope) tend to be the busiest and more social. However, no matter what accommodation you end up living in, there will always be plenty of socialising opportunities on campus, and in Brighton. The university has more than 200 societies and clubs, and the student union is always hosting events where you can meet new people and socialise :cute:

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Kind Regards,

Definitely self-catered is better over catered - there's no way that food will cost over 2k if you're self catered (I don't even spend a fiver some weeks), and from what I've heard, catered food is **** (don't let the menus deceive you). I chose St. Peter's Court because when I applied for accommodation, there wasn't much choice as I had my interview over 6 weeks after accommodation applications opened, otherwise I was going to go for Broadgate as it's the closest self-catered hall to UP (University Park) campus. SPC is the furthest away from UP, although Unite have a bus (you get a fob at the start of the year and you show that to the driver) and there's also the L12 (which is free for UoN students if you show ID) which will take you to Jubilee, QMC and UP (convenient as I'm a pharmacy student so I often go to the med school and to UP) - these are usually hourly and don't run on weekends (L12 runs on Saturday). I personally don't really like SPC, however that is because SPC is party central (people from surrounding accommodations come here to party even though we are still in national lockdown) and I'm a simple, quiet and introverted person, so this place was really not for me. The shops are convenient though - there's a Lidl and an Aldi within a 2-3min walking distance, and where the Aldi is, there's a B&M, poundland, gym, etc.
