bank accounts for 18 year olds

unexpectedly received a job offer yesterday and i'm trying to get a bank account. Have my national insurance number and birth certificate. Dont have passport as it has gone to be renewed. I dont have a driving or provisional license. What can i do? are there any banks that use other forms of id?
Unfortunately not. Most banks ask you to bring your passport as the main form of identification.

Even online banks, like Monzo and Revoult ask you to take a picture of your passport so they know you're a real person.

How long will it take for you to get your passport back? If not within the next week, this could be a big problem :frown:

Well done on the job offer though!

Hope this helped

Try that and see what they say. Make sure you explain everything first

While driving licence and passport are excellent forms of ID for opening a bank account, there are other ways to prove your identity/address.

If you're expecting the passport to take ages, it might be better to quickly apply for a provisional licence. It usually doesn't take long to receive it. You should get an estimate on the website.

Yeah I was looking on the GOV.UK website and it says that it should only take about a week to arrive if you apply online

You could try getting utility bills/benefit letters in your parent's name?

Most 18 year olds are still living with their parents after all

I really can't remember how long mine took since it was years ago but I think it was about a week so that's probably your best bet.

The problem with that is you need an identity document to apply for a provisional licence and that it usually a passport. My daughter's provisional took 10 weeks to arrive as her passport had expired at the time she applied so she had to send off birth certificates instead.

As far as I'm aware a birth certificate should be enough, if you phone up the bank in which you're wanting to join then I'm sure they'll be able to give you their ID policy, which will help you decide if you can join that bank or not. Saying that, if it is a birth certificate, I think it will have to be your full birth certificate rather than the short one. Good luck in your new job! 😊
