Sociology and politics combined degree

Would this degree be a good idea? I'm aiming for Edinburgh uni. Just can't decide if it would have good career options
Hi hi!

I'm exactly like you! I'm aiming for HSPS (Human, Social and Political Sciences) in Cambridge, with my main fields of interest being Sociology and Politics. IMO, Socio and Poli would be a really great combo for the following fields: politician, social work, political advisor, political campaign manager and even Law (in the UK, you don't have to study Law to become a lawyer- someone I know came from this background into Law). So there are definitely career options, they're just not as well known or as obvious as some other courses' career options!
That being said, it also depends on you as a person. I believe it would take an avid and also kind of fast reader, a good writer and an ability to skillfully verbalize and explain social phenomena to excel in this field. You have to do a lot of independent research as well!

Just be aware that any joint subject degree means a compromise on the units you can take.
You wont get the same choice as someone doing just 'Poltics' or 'Sociology' - and this can become very frustrating.

And btw, there is a subject that combines both these subjects - Social Policy.
Edinburgh - https://www.sps.ed.ac.uk/subject-area/social-policy/programmes-intro
Bristol - http://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/2023/social-policy/
etc.
Have you seen the degrees York and Durham offer for these subjects if you want to apply to a few more of the same?
