can you switch solicitor specialisations?

Hiya! Im currently applying for some legal apprenticeships (paralegal and solicitor) but some of the firms I'm applying for don't necessarily specialise in the area of law I think I might want to pursue in the future (M&A).

One of the apprenticeships actually states what team I would be joining upon completion (Intellectual property)

If I were to qualify as a solicitor in one sector, how hard would it be to transfer over to a different sector? I can't lie i really want to do M&A so i can move to a foreign office in a different country, that or something to do with pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies... I'd quite like to move to Japan as one of the countries (I'm getting my JLPT qualification this year so the japanese language bit will be safe - only the actual legal side will stop me)
