Are you based in the UK? If so, you can go into corporate law with just any LLB. With the SQE, you won't even need your degree to be in law. (There are even routes into commercial law without a degree, but I digress.)

See the following accredited degrees by the SRA that includes commercial or business law (https://www.sra.org.uk/become-solicitor/legal-practice-course-route/qualifying-law-degree-common-professional-examination/qualifying-law-degree-providers/):
Aberystwyth University: LLB (Hons) Business Law - Full time
Birmingham City University: LLB Law with Business Law - Full time

Hello @Samij123,

I hope you are doing well. I'm Saba, I am a second year law student at Coventry University. Firstly, I want to inform you that with the new system of the SQE, it does not matter which branch of LLB or which degree that you had done. However, if you want to indulge in business or commercial law, our university offers Commercial Law programme, which provides a comprehensive legal framework to support businesses and enable economic growth. You can check out more detailed information from the website, which is linked below:

https://www.coventry.ac.uk/course-structure/ug/fbl/commercial-law-llb/#ct-section2

Feel free to reach out for more queries!

Hope this works
Best wishes,

Saba

Thank you for the mention @MindMax2000!

Hi @Samij123

As mentioned, we do provide law courses, our Law and Practice LLB is quite a well rounded degree that allows you to choose modules and specialise where your interests lay, for example, you mentioned corporate law, we have optional modules such as Company Law, Commercial Law, Employment Law and more which may relate to your interest: https://courses.hud.ac.uk/2023-24/full-time/undergraduate/law-and-practice-llb-hons#detail

Best wishes,

Hi @Samij123, I hope you had a good weekend.

As @MindMax2000 stated above we do offer LLB (Hons) Business Law: https://www.uel.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/llb-hons-business-law

This course is a qualifying law degree and will prepare you to work as a barrister or solicitor while specialising in areas like employment law, commercial law, and company law. It’s ideal for anyone hoping to work as an in-house legal professional for businesses, or as a lawyer or paralegal with specific commercial expertise.

Being located in Stratford and Docklands also gives you access to networking opportunities, guest talks and mentoring; our links include Ernst & Young, JP Morgan, Barclays, CILEx, The University of Law and the Law Society.

If you wish to know more one of our academic tutors can also assist you further: https://www.uel.ac.uk/about-uel/staff/patrick-glennon-farris

Hope this helps!

To my understanding, you would likely be doing an SQE after your degree (if it's an LLB that you're doing you won't need to study for the SQE for as long, but any graduate is eligible for the SQE) and ideally working in corproate law.

The more difficult aspects of getting the job is securing a training contract, since not all law firms or departments are so willing to give them out. The most difficult aspect of this is trying to secure a specialism in corporate law, where a lot of people would be applying for and law firms and departments don't really give you the privilege of what you specialse in.

I would recommend doing a lot of networking to try to get ahead.

Having said that, I don't work in the legal sector, so you would benefit greatly from an existing corporate solicitor for a second opinion.
